City of Vinita

City of Vinita Vinita offers the laid back ease of rural life with convenient access to events, shopping and entertainment offered by urban areas. Louis or Kansas City.

Nestled where the golden prairies meet the foothills of the Ozarks, our northeastern corner of Oklahoma is abundant with natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Vinita, the county seat of Craig County, was established in 1871 making it the second oldest town in Oklahoma. Like so many communities along historic Route 66, Vinita was a railroad town. Today visitors will find a downtown shoppin

g district with historical structures reminiscent of its Victorian history, while our residential areas serve as the showplace for many beautiful early and pre-statehood homes. Vinita Public School system offers quality in all facets of education, including comfortable learning environments and specialty programs such as advanced placement classes. The average ACT score for a Vinita student exceeds the state average. Several higher education facilities are located within 60 miles. Vinita is located just minutes from the Grand Lake O' the Cherokees. It's easy to understand why Rand McNally has consistently placed Grand Lake O' the Cherokees among the top five retirement communities in the United States, and why the Wall Street Journal has listed Grand Lake for 10 years as the number one place in the country to retire. Grand Lake offers fishing, boating, sailing, swimming, water skiing, beaches, camping, picnic areas and resorts. Northeastern Oklahoma offers the laid back ease of rural life with convenient access to events, shopping and entertainment offered by the urban areas of Tulsa; Oklahoma City; Springfield, MO.; and Fayetteville, AR. Vinita is located at the crossroads of major highways—less than six hours of driving time to Dallas, St.
