In accordance with the Presidential proclamation and Public Law 107-51, Governor Kay Ivey has issued a flag-lowering directive for Sunday, May 3, 2026, to honor America’s fallen firefighters.

Since 1901, over 300 Alabama firefighters have lost their lives related to their service. This Sunday, May 3, 2026, we join the nation in pausing to reflect upon the many sacrifices of our firefighters and pray for them and their families.

Flags on the grounds of the State Capitol Complex in Montgomery and throughout the state of Alabama may be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

We honor and remember our brother, John “Big John” Pardue, of the Cook Springs Fire Department.

Big John wasn’t just a firefighter he was a presence. A steady hand on difficult calls, a loud laugh in the bay, and the kind of man you wanted standing beside you when things got tough. His boots may have been big, but his heart was even bigger.

He answered the call without hesitation, served his community with pride, and treated his fire family like his own blood. Whether it was a late-night structure fire, a medical call, or just sitting around the station telling stories, Big John made an impact that won’t ever fade.

Our department is better because of him. Our community is safer because of him. And our hearts are heavier because he’s gone.

Please keep the Pardue family and our entire Cook Springs Fire family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest easy, brother.
We’ve got it from here.
