The VCSC is excited to announce our new SRO's as we begin a new chapter with our own VCSC Police Department.

We are happy to have as a part of the VCSC from left to right, Officer Kyle Evans, Officer Joshua Shipman, Officer Kevin Porter, Assistant Chief Cody Jones and Chief Aaron Luce.

The officers were sworn in this morning at the VCSC Board meeting and we could not be more proud to have these five officers as a part of the VCSC and protecting our students and staff.

Congratulations to Franklin Elementary, Mrs. Pancake, her staff and our students for their hard work and determination as they achieved the 95% reading proficiency in 2024 and were recognized as one of the 283 schools within Indiana by secretary of Education, Katie Jenner, and Governor Holcomb. The VCSC is proud of your accomplishments! Way to go, Vikings!

Indiana Honors Schools Meeting the State’s 95% Literacy Goal
*Gov. Holcomb, Secretary Jenner Recognize Nearly 300 Schools
in Statehouse Ceremony*---WAY TO GO FRANKLIN VIKINGS!
INDIANAPOLIS -- Governor Eric J. Holcomb and Indiana Secretary of Education Dr. Katie Jenner recognized educators from 283 schools where at least 95% of students demonstrated reading proficiency in 2024 at a ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse on Wednesday.
During the state’s first literacy celebration last February, 241 schools were recognized for reaching the statewide literacy goal, as demonstrated during the 2023 administration of the IREAD assessment. Wednesday's celebration marked an increase of more than 40 additional schools that are now meeting this important goal.
“Our statewide goal of achieving 95% reading proficiency among Indiana students is ever closer because of the work these schools have done and continue to do everyday,” said Gov. Holcomb. “Reading is foundational to all other educational and quality of life goals we set as a state, and I want to commend the educators at each of the schools honored today for their commitment to a brighter future for our students and the state of Indiana.”
“When it comes to supporting every child to reach their full potential, one of the most important things we can do is teach them to read,” said Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana Secretary of Education. “The ability to read has an impact on students’ academic achievement, as well as their lifelong opportunities. While we must certainly continue to keep our foot on the gas pedal to ensure all students are reading by the end of third grade, today is about celebrating the impactful work of schools, educators, parents and families and communities across Indiana working together for students. Congratulations to all of the schools that hit our shared 95% goal, and let’s keep this positive momentum going for Indiana students!”

Excellent job to all of our elementary students who participated in our theater camp all week at the high school.

The kids did a phenomenal job with "Finding Nemo."

Thank you to Ms. Bruner and all of her hard-working crew that included her faithful crew of adults and our student workers who came from both the middle school and the high school this week to help our elementary students.

Also excited for the announcement at the end of the production for next year's VCSC Stars productions was announced to the public. It includes "Oliver" for the middle school, "Big" for the high school and "Winnie the Pooh" for the elementary.

Please consider taking a few minutes to complete this community survey. Thank you!

VCSC Families and Patrons,

I am going to ask for a favor and those of you are willing to do a survey, but the below survey and you may need to copy and paste into your browser would be very beneficial for many programs within Vincennes and the greater context of Knox County and learning about your views or thoughts, in addition to your perspective and desires. The survey will take you about five minutes (give or take a minute or two).

Many of you likely have heard of the READI funds that have come from the state and in Vincennes and Knox County a huge focus has been spent on housing, transportation, and childcare (and not necessarily in that order) and it is possible that additional monies may continue to be spent. We also know health care, areas of recreations, utilities, etc. are also much needed amenities amongst many other things for a thriving community.

But your input will go a long way with the dollars that will come to Vincennes/Knox County, but we need survey responses.

Click here to access the survey: https://www.surveylegend.com/s/5mn5
So, thank you in advance if you are willing to complete the survey.

Most generally, the VCSC does not respond to those items that are posted externally with which we have zero control over, but a recent posting concerns the situation with our School Resource Officers, deserves a response. The VCSC works in conjunction with the City of Vincennes and the Vincennes Police Department and because of a major grant with which the city and the VPD received, the VPD is no longer going to put officers in the VCSC schools that come out of the reserve officer program but instead will be placing Vincennes Police Officers in the schools. The city and the VPD have assured the VCSC that we will have the same number of officers that we presently are operating with, and this includes a total of five uniformed officers. The primary objective by the VPD is to put the five officers in for the start of the 2024/2025 school year and then ramp up in the case of the VCSC to seven full-time officers.

The VCSC appreciates those officers with which we have had through the reserve program, but we also appreciate the relationship that we have with the city and the VPD as it is truly unlike no other and we look forward to partnering with them as they put officers in our schools that are police officers of the VPD.

Being sure that our schools and just as important is that of our students and staff are of the utmost concern and importance and the city, the VPD and the VCSC collectively work as one team to be sure that the absolute best is being provided.

The VCSC also thanks the city and the VPD for this commitment!
