This is how a plan for Father Rivet's Garden looks after I get it ready for the new gardening year. I look at the previous couple of years so that I can see what can or should not be planted in certain spaces. A lot of thought goes into it, but after so many years of doing plans for this garden it doesn't take me very long.
The items in "spring blue" (not to be confused with those in purple - they look too close in color in the photo) need to be planted very soon. The cabbages, lettuces, and endive are all growing as healthy seedlings right now indoors under lights. The rest of the early spring crops will be direct-seeded into the garden sometime soon (need to get onion starts, too.) The beet and pea seeds will be soaked overnight before planting to encourage germination.
So, see if you can envision how the garden will look this year via this map. :)

Catching up ...
On October 10, 2025, some plants and seeds were added to Father Rivet's Garden (after some clean-up.) These are fall/winter varieties.
Also, the Blue Coco pole bean vines were having a resurgence!

I'll be posting updates sometime soon - there's some more to plant!

Cucumbers are growing in Father Rivet's Garden!
These are a small French cornichon - or, rather, meant to be picked small. The ones here are still very tiny, but will grow fast!

Some blooms in Father Rivet's Garden on July 13, 2025.
Some plants are allowed to bloom and go to seed so that seed can be collected and saved.
- Calendula: a very old, medicinal plant (especially used for helping skin), this brightens up the garden and attracts pollinators. On this day there were a couple of seed heads ready to harvest.
- Endive, which is closely related to lettuce.
- A little blurry, but here's some Common Chives blooming again!

The shallots and garlic were harvested from Father Rivet's Garden on July 13, 2025. Since that time they've been allowed to cure indoors, then cleaned up a bit for storage. Some cloves will be selected for planting this fall.
