The Town of Vinalhaven and the Vinalhaven Sea Level Rise and Climate Committee invite community members to the second in a series of public conversations about the Folly Pond & Trotting Park Flood Resilience Project, designed to study flooding impacts at Folly Pond Crossing and the Trotting Park area and identify long-term solutions that support safe access, emergency response, water protection, and nearby wetlands.

Conversation #2: Learning from the Landscape and the Community
Thursday, June 25, 6:00–7:15 PM
Vinalhaven Town Office and on Zoom

In this conversation, we’ll hear from B&L Engineering about their May 26 site visit and early assessments—and we want to hear from you! Come share your local knowledge about flooding, access, drainage, and environmental conditions at Folly Pond Crossing and the Trotting Park.

Refreshments will be provided. The engineers will be attending in person, and online participation will be facilitated to ensure virtual attendees can fully take part.

For all construction related questions, including scheduling, please contact Project Inspector Kevin Hughes at (207) 385-5588

Stormwater – Today, JBI will be wrapping up stormwater work in the Downtown Parking Lot. They will be working near the road and the Eagle, so please use caution when driving into and through the lot. Thank you for your patience with the limited parking and ongoing construction! We expect to receive JBI’s schedule for next week later today. As of now, it looks like they will move back to the area in front of the Public Safety Building before returning to Main Street near Carver’s. We will post an update on the expected next work location as soon as we receive their schedule.

Boat Ramps – Depending on the weather, Dan Ford, Jake Stanley, and their crews should be wrapping up paving on the boat ramp approaches today. This week, Woodard & Curran, Kevin, and Millie completed an initial site inspection and developed a final punch list for both areas. Dan and his crew will take care of those remaining items, and a final inspection will take place soon before the project officially wraps up. Many thanks to Dan, Jake, and their crews for the excellent work on the ramps. It is great to have both of them back in working order. If you need to use the ramps and are unsure whether they are accessible, please contact Kevin Hughes at (207) 385-5588.
