From NWS 8/30/26 9pm

We wanted to give you an update this evening on the Tropical Disturbance designated as AL97 off the southeast Louisiana coast. Convection around the system has become better organized this evening and the probability of development into a tropical depression or low end tropical storm has increased to 70 percent.

Due to this, there is a possibility that tropical storm watches and warnings may be issued for portions of the southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas coast later tonight or on Monday morning by 10 am.

We still looking at mainly a rain evening with the potential for urban and street flooding due to high rain rates in the tropical showers and thunderstorms. Some minor wind and surge impacts may occur along the coast late Monday into Tuesday if this system does form into a Tropical Storm.

There is still some uncertainty in the overall track, center point reaching somewhere between the upper Texas coast and lower southwest Louisiana, and the strength between a tropical depression and low end tropical storm.
