If you haven't visited the reservoir at John Leon Park, this is an excellent opportunity to do just that!

Mark your calendar! Illinois Free Fishing Days are June 19-22. Free Fishing Days are a great time to discover or rediscover the fun of fishing and introduce children to the activity. During these four days, anyone can fish in Illinois without purchasing a fishing license, salmon stamp or inland trout stamp. Visit ifishillinois.org for information on where to fish and local regulations.

Each May, our nation comes together to honor the courage, sacrifice and dedication of law enforcement officers. Originally established by presidential proclamation by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National Police Week includes Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15th and a week of observances recognizing officers who have given their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to serve and protect our communities with dedication and courage.

Events are centered in Washington, D.C., and include the Candlelight Vigil hosted by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) National Survivors Conference, and the cornerstone of the week, the Fraternal Order of Police National Peace Officers Memorial Service on May 15th at the West Front of the United States Capitol.

National Police week is both a time of solemn remembrance and a celebration of the men and women who serve with integrity and bravery every day. It reminds us that behind every badge is a story of service, sacrifice and family.

VG Administrative Assistant Beth Elston was celebrated as Rotary's Public Service Honoree of the Year, acknowledging her exemplary service of over 35 years in diverse positions at VG. Chief of Police Cole Tibbetts and Rotary President Wayne Clark joined Beth for this prestigious recognition.

People have been asking and complaining about the increase in e-bike and scooter traffic in town. See the great information here from Champaign County Sheriff’s Office. Riders, please be mindful of safety for you and those around you. Parents, please talk with your kids about riding these. No one enjoying a walk on the sidewalk wants to be hit by an e-bike, no parent wants to face that lawsuit or just buy their kid these bikes/scooters then have them not allowed anymore, and no kid wants to be the one who ruined it for everyone else.

Tomorrow afternoon, in collaboration with Villa Grove High School, we will conduct a live-action motor vehicle accident demonstration. The purpose is to illustrate the dangers of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. This will utilize emergency vehicles and personnel from Villa Grove Fire & Rescue and partner agencies, including a helicopter. The demonstration will occur on school grounds.
