Making our roads safer, one corridor at a time! 🚗🚶‍♂️🚴‍♀️✨

The SCTPO and Kittelson & Associates, Inc. recently conducted a series of corridor safety reviews aimed at identifying data-driven solutions to reduce speed-related crashes. 🛣️📈

The team spent the morning in the City of Cocoa evaluating S. Friday Road and Range Road, focusing on the interaction between high vehicular speeds and active pedestrian/bicyclist traffic. 🚶‍♂️🚴‍♀️

In the afternoon, the assessment moved to N. Banana River Drive in Merritt Island to address heavy speeding and gather valuable, firsthand feedback from local residents. 🗣️🏡

Collaborative field reviews like these are crucial for designing safer, more accessible transportation networks. Stay tuned for updates! 🛠️🛣️

OPERATION: SAFE STREETS FOR ALL – STATS UPDATE
Our Traffic Enforcement Unit has officially wrapped up the two-week "Safe Streets for All" special enforcement detail. Over the course of the operation, officers focused on high-traffic intersections to improve roadway safety and quality of life across the City of Melbourne.

Here are the final results from the detail:

to a wheel-y great day at Addison Village Club’s Camp Addison! ✨🚴‍♀️

Last week, our Community Engagement Coordinator teamed up with the awesome campers for a ROLLRight safety session, and the energy was unmatched! 🎯

We rolled through some super important safety topics to keep our streets safe for everyone, focusing on our Vision Zero goals. The campers learned all about:

🪖 The power of helmets (and why wearing one every time is a must!)
🦺 High visibility and staying bright
🔦 Using bike lights to see and be seen
👋 Hand and audible signals to communicate on the go
🚲 The ABC Check (Air, Brakes, Chain!) before every ride

The best part? We got to custom-fit some campers with brand-new helmets and sent everyone home with some cool safety swag!😎

Huge thanks to Camp Addison for having us! Remember to watch out for each other this summer.

SCTPO staff joined partners from US Senator Ashley Moody’s Office, the City of Palm Bay - Government, Westside Elementary School, and our consultants Kittelson & Associates, Inc. to review potential safety improvements along Degroodt Rd., a corridor identified on Brevard County's High Injury Network for serious traffic injuries and fatalities.

The City of Palm Bay recently submitted a Safe Streets and Roads for All Federal Grant to enhance the corridor for students and other road users. 👏💙

Projects are about more than engineering. They’re about saving lives and enhancing the quality of life for everyone who uses our roads. 🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️🚗
