The 2026 Treasure Coin Hunt is Almost Here!
Get ready to explore some of Brevard County's most beautiful nature sanctuaries in search of a commemorative treasure coin featuring this year's design: The Florida Flying Squirrel!
The hunt begins on Saturday, June 20, 2026, and coins will be hidden at:
📍 Enchanted Forest Sanctuary – 444 Columbia Blvd. Titusville
📍 Sams House – 6195 N. Tropical Trail, Merritt Island

A few things to know before you start your quest:
✅ Coins are hidden within 10 feet of a marked trail
✅ All hiding locations are visible from the trail
✅ No digging or climbing required
✅ Some coins may only be visible from a specific angle
✅ Clues will consist of a trail map and either a photo or written clue.
If you're lucky enough to find a coin, please:
📸 Take a photo of yourself holding the coin at the hiding location.
✉️ Send us the photo along with a brief story about how you found it.
If you find a hiding spot but the coin has already been found, keep checking back because we will be continually hiding coins in the same locations until they are all gone.
Please remember: One coin per person so more treasure hunters can enjoy the experience.
Clues will be posted here on the EEL page the morning of Saturday, June 20th.
Gather your friends and family, lace up your hiking shoes, and discover the amazing natural areas right here in Brevard County.
Good luck, treasure hunters! 🍀

Pause the Fertilizer to Protect the Lagoon.

Today marks the start of the Summer Fertilizer Blackout Period in the Indian River Lagoon watershed. From June 1 to September 30, nitrogen-containing fertilizer is prohibited from being applied to lawns and landscaping.

During Florida’s rainy season, fertilizer can quickly wash off lawns and into storm drains or be pushed past a lawn's root zone and into groundwater that flows directly to our waterways. Taking a break from fertilizing during the next four months helps reduce nutrient pollution and supports cleaner water, healthier seagrass, and a stronger Lagoon ecosystem.

The good news? Your lawn usually doesn’t need fertilizer this time of year thanks to regular rains.

Small actions at home can make a big difference for the Indian River Lagoon. Stopping pollution at the source also makes SOIRL's large-scale pollution-reduction projects work more efficiently. Working together, we can get to a healthier Lagoon faster. 🌿💧
