Today I was lucky to spend time with the 4th grade class at a local Elementary School. Thank you to my constituent (and teacher), Lisa Waters, for the invite!

We talked about what I do as a legislator in Richmond, how bills become laws, and the importance of civic engagement.

The students asked fantastic questions… and even gave me a few ideas for future bills! I always enjoy hearing directly from young people and encouraging them to get involved in government and public service at an early age. They truly are the future leaders of our communities and our Commonwealth.

Back in Richmond this week for meetings with the Virginia Commission on Youth and the Virginia Commission on Healthy Youth.

We discussed a wide range of issues impacting children, teens, and families across the Commonwealth — including mental health, abuse, public health, and juvenile justice. I also appreciated the opportunity to discuss my bill, HB 91, which focuses on improving standards and increasing out-of-cell time for youth in Virginia’s juvenile correctional facilities.

Every young person deserves safety, dignity, support, and a real opportunity for rehabilitation and success. Grateful to continue working on these important issues on behalf of Virginia’s youth.

“Keeping people in such conditions longer than needed, the plaintiffs as well as lawmakers like Jones and Seibold have argued, damages their mental health and prevents them from accessing rehabilitative programs that can set them up for successful re-entry when their sentences end.”

Red Onion State Prison, a Southwest Virginia correctional facility, has come under scrutiny in recent years for inmates’ allegations of racism, retaliation and abuse, claims partially supported by a state probe earlier this year. Gov. Abigail Spanberger vetoed on Tuesday a bill that aimed to solve...

Great to attend VCU’s event in Tysons last night and meet with the deans from so many of their outstanding schools, along with VCU President Michael Rao. I appreciated learning more about the important work Virginia Commonwealth University is doing to expand opportunity, drive innovation, and serve communities across the Commonwealth. Proud to have VCU in the 12th House District for the evening!

Dead zones are more than an inconvenience… They are a public safety risk.

When residents can’t call 911 after a car accident, report an emergency on a trail, or reach their children or aging parents during a crisis, we need solutions. That’s why I carried HB 277 this year to help streamline upgrades to existing wireless infrastructure and improve coverage across communities in the 12th House District.

I will never stop fighting until every resident in our community has reliable cell coverage.

As FFXnow reported:

“Earlier this spring, the General Assembly passed and Gov. Abgail Spanberger has signed HB 277, sponsored by Del. Holly Siebold…”

Throughout the Town of Vienna's 4.4 square miles, and in adjacent areas of Fairfax County, a number of businesses and residents have struggled with dead zones or otherwise weak cell phone coverage, leading to increasing frustration and even the passage of state legislation. Yesterday, I was honored to attend the opening of Freedom Bank of Virginia’s Tysons Corner branch and new headquarters. This marks the company’s second branch in the 12th District and represents an exciting investment in our community. Freedom’s new location will create greater convenience and opportunity for customers while continuing to strengthen our local economy.

As your Delegate, I remain committed to supporting smart economic development and creating opportunities for businesses to grow and thrive in our community.

Loved spending the morning talking policy and advocacy with one of the greatest - The Arc of Northern Virginia’s Lucy Beadnell. She does incredible work advocating for the developmental disability community and making sure individuals and families have a strong voice in Richmond and beyond. Grateful for her partnership and leadership.
