CITY OF VIENNA CODE ENFORCEMENT

ARTICLE 1145 REMINDER

As part of our ongoing effort to keep Vienna clean, safe, and beautiful, we want to remind residents of the City’s regulations regarding abandoned and junk motor vehicles, household appliances, and other debris.

Under Article 1145, a vehicle may be considered abandoned or junk if it is inoperative, discarded, wrecked or dismantled; does not have a valid registration plate; cannot pass state inspection; has an inspection sticker expired for more than 60 days; or is otherwise not serving a functional purpose.

Junk vehicles may not be placed on public property or rights-of-way. In addition, junk vehicles, automobile bodies, parts, and other debris may not be allowed to accumulate on private property. Unless a junk vehicle is actively and presently being serviced or repaired, it must be kept under a car cover.

When an abandoned or junk vehicle is located on private property, the City may provide the property owner and vehicle owner, if ascertainable, 10 days’ notice before taking action. If a nuisance is not corrected within the required period, the City may remove it, charge the cost of removal to the property, and place a lien against the property.

⚠️ Violations of Article 1145 may result in a fine of up to $500, imprisonment for up to 30 days, or both. Each day a violation continues may constitute a separate offense.

Our goal is always to encourage voluntary compliance and work together to maintain the appearance, safety, and quality of our neighborhoods.

Thank you for doing your part to help keep Vienna a great place to live!
