Our annual College Fair is coming up, and we’re excited to welcome students as they explore their college and career opportunities!

Staff Spotlight: Tammy Hester nominated by Eileen Connor

I’d like to nominate Tammy Hester for her ability to multitask like no one else. She never hesitates to jump in wherever she can to help with any and every task.

Besides her normal duties you can find her requesting and receiving donations for the VHS Pirate Pantry, directing traffic at all events out at the stadium (weather is never an issue).

Tammy is everyone’s go to person when in need and she goes above and beyond to fill requests.

Tammy is a valuable asset to the high school campus and VISD as a whole. We need more people like Tammy!

It was a party in the USA at VHS today as our students and staff celebrated our first big game of the season! Tonight its Pirates vs. Tigers as our team faces off against Silsbee and our pirates did not disappoint when it comes to school spirit! Please enjoy some of our yearbook highlights from the day!

Pretty awesome to have a guy that has spoken to Alabama, Clemson, LSU, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and many more come speak to our kiddos!

The message was amazing, but what was truly incredible was his willingness to connect with our students. Mr. West stayed behind for a long time and took the time to answer questions and give advice to our students and staff that wanted to speak to him. He listened to each individual and sought to help them.

*** 8/28 Pep Rally Information***

Parents and guests who wish to attend events on campus during the school day will need to come to the high school and have their ID scanned through the Raptor system and “pre-register” online to have their visitor badge ready the day of the event. Once you have done this, you won’t have to scan your ID for future events for the rest of the first semester, but you will have to pre-register online for each one you plan to attend. If you do not pre-register for the event, you will have to wait in line to have your ID put through the Raptor system, and you could miss part or all of the event you plan to attend. Pre-registration can be found on the VHS website under the Parents/ Students tab by selecting "visitor's badge” and is open at this time!

Our first event of the year will be the Pep Rally held on Friday, August 28th, in the Gym at 3:20 pm. The cutoff to "pre-register" for a visitor badge will be Thursday, Aug. 27th, at 4:00 pm. On the pep rally day, you will enter through the gate to the new gym by the cosmetology building. Parents and visitors can park in the parking area across from the stadium on Melrose St. Parents can begin entering at 2:40 pm. If you didn't pre-register, we will have a mobile raptor system at the side entrance of the new gym, but you will have to wait in line to swipe your ID. The gates will be locked at 3:20, and there will be no further entry at that time.

Staff Spotlight: Tim Singleton and DeErin Gau nominated by Tyler Root

I am nominating Mr. Singleton and Mrs. Gau because they truly exemplify what it means to be team players. Since the first day of school, the air conditioning in my classroom has not been working properly. Without hesitation, they have graciously opened their classrooms to my students and me, ensuring that we have a comfortable and productive learning environment.

I recognize that welcoming another class into their spaces may create inconveniences, require them to adjust their own routines, or even temporarily take away from the normal use of their classrooms. Despite this, they have never made us feel like an inconvenience. Instead, they have continued to be gracious, flexible, and willing to help in any way they can.

Their willingness to put the needs of students and a fellow teacher ahead of their own convenience speaks volumes about their character. Mr. Singleton and Mrs. Gau are wonderful examples of teamwork, selflessness, and what it means to support one another as a campus family.
