There was no better way to wrap up the school year than celebrating these incredible educators at our end of the year convocation this past Friday!

Vidor ISD is thrilled to officially honor our 2026 Teachers of the Year. The hard work, passion, and pure heart these teachers pour into our classrooms every day is inspiring, and getting to cheer them on as a community was the perfect highlight to a great year.

A massive round of applause for our two overall District Teachers of the Year:

Ashtchin Kilmer (Oak Forest Elementary) – Elementary District Teacher of the Year

Carol Kibodeaux (Vidor High School) – Secondary District Teacher of the Year

We are also incredibly proud of our campus Teachers of the Year who make our schools such a wonderful place to learn and grow:

Careen Madix – Pine Forest Elementary, ABU

Jana Bloomfield – Vidor Elementary, Behavior Specialist

Amy Nash – Vidor Middle School, 5th Grade ELA

Adam Brown – Vidor Junior High School, 8th Grade History

Thank you all for going above and beyond for our students and the entire Pirate community. Have a wonderful, well-deserved summer break!

Drop some congratulations and love for these amazing teachers in the comments below!

Next up in our Vidor ISD Employee Spotlight is Mr. Kenny Baters! Mr. Baters serves as a custodian for our high school athletic program and gym. Ensuring a clean and safe environment for our athletes, taking care of all of the practice and game laundry needs, and helping to clean and care for equipment are all tasks that he takes pride in as he makes sure our athletes and coaches have what they need for practices and games. You’d be hard pressed to catch Mr. Baters without a smile on his face, as even on the tougher days he finds a way to stay positive and keep smiling. When he greets you, you know he is sincere in checking in on you with that same familiar smile. We appreciate Mr. Baters and all he brings to the athletic program, the high school, and Vidor ISD.

We appreciate all of our wonderful sponsors!

Today, Vidor ISD campuses were briefly placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution following a report of a potential safety concern in the area. At no time was there a threat inside any Vidor ISD school. As a precaution, campuses were placed on lockdown while district administrators and law enforcement assessed the situation.

During the lockdown, all safety protocols were followed, and students and staff remained safe. After receiving guidance from law enforcement, campuses returned to normal operations.

We appreciate the cooperation of our students, staff, and families as we remain committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all.

Next up on our Vidor ISD Employee Spotlight is none other than longtime Vidor High School Social Studies teacher, Mr. Stephen Sterling!!! He has taught a number of different history courses over the years, and you can always count on him to deliver engaging lessons rooted in his knowledge and experience, mixed in with a little well-timed humor! We appreciate Mr. Sterling for all he does to making learning fun and helping history come alive in his classroom. He is a longtime favorite of his students, and it’s easy to see why.
