Despite its name, New World Screwworm is actually a type of fly that can affect livestock, pets, wildlife, and, in rare cases, people.

While the United States successfully eliminated New World Screwworm decades ago, recent detection in Texas have renewed interest in this important animal and public health topic.

Taking care of wounds, monitoring animals for unusual changes, and knowing when to contact a veterinarian or healthcare provider can help reduce the risk of infestation.
