Sometimes you’ve fed your baby, changed their diaper, and you’re still wondering, “What do you need, little one?”

When your baby is otherwise well, the 5 S’s can be a helpful way to try to soothe a fussy baby:

👶 Swaddle — A snug, safe swaddle can help baby feel secure.
🤱 Side/Stomach Position — Holding baby on their side or stomach while you are awake and watching them can be soothing.
🤫 Shushing — Gentle, rhythmic sounds can remind baby of the sounds they heard before birth.
💗 Swinging — Gentle rocking or movement may help calm a fussy baby.
🍼 Sucking — Nursing, a bottle, or a pacifier can provide comfort through sucking.

You may find that one works better than another, or that combining a few helps your baby settle. Every baby is different, so give yourself permission to try what works for your little one.

And remember: fussy doesn't mean you're doing something wrong. Sometimes babies simply need a little extra comfort and reassurance.
