Meet Victoria Engine 1!

Engine 1 is a 2022 Sutphen equipped with 750 gallons of onboard water and a 1,500 gallons-per-minute pump, making it a versatile and dependable part of our fleet. It normally leaves the station with four firefighters, an operator, officer and two firefighters.

Engine 1 serves as a first-out apparatus for many of our emergency calls. Outside of fighting fires, the truck is equipped for car crashes, medical calls, public assists, and everything in between; this truck is ready to roll when calls come in.

Stay tuned for more Fleet Friday posts as we introduce you to the trucks and equipment that help the Victoria Fire Department serve our community!

Last night, the department took some time to celebrate, have some fun, and enjoy a little friendly competition!

We started the evening with a badge pinning ceremony for Eric Menth and Dylan Lundmark. This important milestone marks the completion of their probationary period and their transition to becoming full firefighters. Congratulations, Eric and Dylan!

After the ceremony, the department headed outside for some water fights. The competition features two teams battling to push a barrel toward the other team’s side using streams of water, while the opposing team worked to push it back. It was a fun way to spend the evening, build teamwork, and enjoy some friendly competition!

Congratulations again to Eric and Dylan, and thanks to everyone who came out and made the night a great one!

Last night, Victoria Firefighters spent the evening getting hands-on experience with auto extrication. When a serious crash happens, firefighters may need to remove parts of a vehicle to safely get someone out. This training gives our crews the opportunity to practice those skills in a controlled setting, so they are better prepared when they arrive at a real crash. Firefighters worked through different situations involving damaged vehicles and practiced the tools, techniques, and teamwork needed to safely remove someone from a vehicle.

To make the training as realistic as possible, firefighters used live simulations with members of the department acting as victims who required extrication and treatment to injuries. This allows our crews to practice not only the technical skills needed to stabilize and gain access to vehicles, but also patient care, communication, and coordination throughout the entire rescue.

Training like this helps ensure our firefighters are prepared to respond when seconds matter.
