Program Description
Staff works in a collaborative model to best meet the needs of an early childhood, Kindergarten through 5th grade student population. Staff embrace the concept of partnerships with: other district programs offered through Community Education; community and parents. Specialists and classroom teachers collaborate with one another as well as across c
ommunities to integrate curriculum and seamless delivery of instruction. Grade level and specialist area teachers have common prep time each day. Caretaker groups are used to represent each curricular area including multi-age opportunities for learning. Students are housed in multi-grade communities. Students loop from 2nd to 3rd grade and 4th to 5th grade. Kindergarten and 1st grade are a single year experience. Adopted district curriculum is used. Supplemental lessons and activities are supported and encouraged when appropriate and/or needed. Staff use differentiation to meet the needs of each student. Program for Academic Challenge is available to all students. Flex grouping in reading and math occurs within grade levels to allow for continuous progress. Compacting curriculum is used to move students through the spiraling curriculum. Students exceeding grade level curriculum expectations are provided for with materials that are challenging and enriching. Students on IEPs will be serviced in an Inclusive Model, supporting and incorporating District 112’s Statement on Inclusion. Pre/post assessments are varied and include: authentic, standardized and curriculum series assessments.
