Quail Creek Swim Club

Quail Creek Swim Club Summertime family fun in the sun!

05/03/2018

In March 2018, we announced that the Quail Creek Swim Club was not going to open for the 2018 season due to extensive repairs and hurricane damage. No long-term plans have been made and, as was stated in a previous post, we contacted the Quail Creek MUD board to see if they might be interested in a long-term lease for no cost. We made this offer because we would like to see the pool continue to open for the benefit of the community if possible and we were encouraged to do so by several local residents. Ultimately, the residents of Quail Creek will have to decide if they will support the QCMUD in operating the pool.

Have a great summer.

H. Ray Walden and the Walden family

03/18/2018

With a heavy heart we would like to announce that the Quail Creek Swim Club will not open for the 2018 season. Hurricane Harvey damages and other costly repairs necessary to open have made it financially impossible to open this year.

In 1983 Pauline and Harold Walden built the pool with the hope that it would be an asset to the Quail Creek area; a place where families could come and enjoy cool water in a wholesome environment. It has been that and so much more. Countless children have learned to swim in those waters, starting in the baby pool and working their way onto the slide and diving boards. But before they could venture into the deep end, Mrs. Walden would always make them prove that they could really swim. She loved the pool and everyone that came there. In her later years you would find her and Mr. Walden keeping a watchful eye making sure that everyone was safe. Of course, there were always a few that would get out of line; Mrs. Walden would pull them off to the side, talk to them, counsel them and most of the time let them go back to the water.

The pool was also a first job for many kids in the area, starting as a gatekeeper and later moving on to be lifeguards. This included a number of Mr. and Mrs. Walden’s own grandkids. She saw to it that they took their job seriously and we are proud to say that in 34 years there has never been a serious injury at the pool.

Quail Creek was also one of the founding members of the Coastal Bend Swim League and the pool has hosted numerous swim meets including a regional meet. This past year, the Quail Creek Barracudas was one of only three teams left in the league.

We don’t know what the long term outlook for the pool is. We are exploring ways for the pool to find new life including contacting the Quail Creek MUD board to see if they might be interested in a long term lease for no cost. Only time will tell.

Have a great summer and hopefully we will see you in the future.
