PRESS RELEASE: Johnson files papers to attain Mississippi Congressional seat

Alden Johnson of Petal has submitted his qualifiying papers to the Libertarian Party of Mississippi for the 2022 election seeking the office of U.S. Representative of the fourth Congressional District.

Johnson is currently a Lieutenant for the City of Petal’s fire department, where he has become efficient in hazardous materials response, radiation response, rope rescues, and many other disciplines. Previously, he served at the Hattiesburg Fire Department after graduating from the fire academy in early 2016. He is also a nationally registered emergency medical technician.

Prior to becoming a firefighter, Johnson worked at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg and attended Jones College. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout after participating in the Boy Scouts of America for seven years.

Johnson states that his views are simple. “You should have the right to live your life as you see fit, as long as you don’t infringe on another’s right to do the same. 74% of Mississippians seem to believe the same thing.”

He has signed a “Term Limits Pledge” stating he would serve no longer than six years or three terms of two years. After serving in Congress, he would like to return to working in fire and rescue.

Johnson is married to Pa’Shance Johnson, and they reside in Petal.

More than 14 months after voters in Mississippi passed an initiative to legalize medical marijuana—a law the state Supreme Court later overturned—Republican-led lawmakers have sent a bill to the governor on Wednesday that would establish a more limited cannabis program for patients, the result o...
