United Way of Broome County

United Way of Broome County Give. Advocate. Volunteer. LIVE UNITED. In 1973, the name United Way of Broome County was adopted.

In Broome County, the "united" concept of helping people dates back to at least 1918 with the formation of the Binghamton United Relief Organization. In 1954, three separate organizations serving Binghamton, Endicott, and Johnson City were combined into a single countywide organization, Broome County United Fund. Nationally, the organization now known as United Way began in the 1880s in Denver, Co

lorado, as an effort to consolidate fund raising activities among local charities. Today there are about 1,300 individual United Ways in the United States.

The Discovery Center is proud to host a donation box in our lobby for the 3rd Annual Sneaker Drive for Kids, a wonderful initiative byFOX 40 News WICZ-TV and the United Way of Broome County to provide brand-new sneakers to local children in need.

Now through July 24, you can support the drive by dropping off a pair of new sneakers right here in our lobby. Thank you for helping us step up for our community's kids ahead of the August 8th distribution day!

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. šŸ’™

At United Way of Broome County, Youth Opportunity is one of our four key pillars because we believe every young person should have access to the resources, support, and experiences they need to succeed.

That's why we proudly fund 16 programs across Broome County that help youth build confidence, strengthen academic achievement, develop life skills, and create brighter futures.

When you give to United Way, you're investing in local children and helping create pathways to success for the next generation.

For the past three days, members of the United Way of Broome County team had the incredible opportunity to attend United Way’s first-ever Northeast Regional Conference, hosted by United Way of the Lehigh Valley.

The conference provided a valuable opportunity to connect with United Way peers from across the region, share ideas, and learn more about the impact our organizations are making in communities every day.

We were also honored to hear from Tyrone Muse, President and CEO of Visions Federal Credit Union, who shared insights on how leaders are navigating change at the local, regional, and national levels while strengthening trust in the United Way network.

We are especially proud of our Community Initiatives team members, Timothy Hafner, Tanisha Arroyo, and Jenna DiMarzio, who presented on the Healthy Lifestyles Coalition- HLC growth before and after COVID-19, highlighting key lessons learned and strategies that have helped strengthen the coalition’s impact over time.

Our Senior Director of Operations, Lindsey Mott, also shared her expertise during a session on Strategic Foresight with NextGen, exploring how the Foresight Cycle and related tools can be used to develop informed and thought-provoking visions of the future that inspire meaningful action today.

A special congratulations and thank you to our Executive Director, Paula Perna, who played an integral role in planning this inaugural event.

Thank you to United Way of the Lehigh Valley for being such a gracious host. We leave inspired, energized, and excited to continue advancing our mission, strengthening our community, and building on the relationships and knowledge gained throughout this remarkable experience.
