Given Monday was Memorial Day, VPD’s Special Response Team completed a “Murph” workout for their PT session this afternoon.

This particular workout has become a Memorial Day tradition for many and intended to honor and pay respect to those that have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our great Country.

The workout was created by US Navy Seal Lt. Michael P. Murphy, who was killed in action on June 28, 2005 during an operation in Afghanistan.

Lest we forget.

Today, we honor and pay tribute to the 24,775 fallen police officers that have died in the line of duty. May their sacrifices never be forgotten.

Early this morning officers from the Versailles Police Department held a sunrise service honoring Town Marshall George Freeman, who was shot and killed in 1883 while serving the good citizens of Woodford County.

Thank you Chaplain Tony Hardin for leading us in prayer.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of our community partners for their generous support of VPD's Safe Summer Kick-Off event.

A very special thank you goes to VPD Victim Advocate Ellie Castle for dedicating so much time, energy, and effort to coordinating this event and helping make it such a success. We are also grateful to Save-A-Lot and Kroger for their generous donations; to Woodford County Parks and Recreation for the use of their facility; and to Amanda Waits for her assistance in coordinating its use.

We would also like to recognize Heather Plunkett of the Woodford County Library, Yesenia Reyes of the Woodford County Health Department, Cole Grannis of the Youth Engagement Project, and WC School Food Service Director Courtney Quire for providing valuable resources and information that will help equip our local children and families with tools needed for a safe, healthy, and successful summer.

In addition, we want to give a huge shout-out to some wonderful community friends: Pam Trejo for preparing and serving hundreds of snow cone and cotton candy treats, and Emily Castle and Rose Knauss for painting countless smiling little faces throughout the event. Your time, energy, and talents helped create a fun, welcoming, and memorable experience for everyone who attended.

Lastly, we would like to thank the Woodford County Agency for Substance Abuse Policy (ASAP), whose funding made this fun and educational event possible. We appreciate your investment in our youth and your continued commitment to building a healthy, safe, and drug-free community.
