Last night, the Versailles community celebrated the 170th birthday of James H. Tyson, our town’s benefactors, with the Tyson Fund Trustees awarding $766,160 from the James H. Tyson Fund to organizations in Versailles.
Mr. Tyson established the Fund in 1931 with 18,000 shares of Walgreens stock, creating a lasting legacy of support for the Versailles community. This year marks the 96th year of distributions, with the Fund having contributed more than $27.6 million to Versailles over those 96 years.
The Town of Versailles is incredibly grateful for the continued generosity of the Tyson Fund and the lasting impact of Mr. Tyson’s vision.
This year’s distribution will help the Town:
• Contribute toward the water bond payment
• Make equipment payments
• Fund sewer system repairs
• Replace the remaining old water meters with digital meters
• Make improvements to Town Hall
Nearly a century later, Mr. Tyson’s gift continues to make a difference in the everyday life of our community. That is an extraordinary legacy and one that Versailles is fortunate to carry forward.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Tyson!
