After some investigation the odor that we are smelling this afternoon is not coming from Kemin, but somewhere north of the Kemin plants. In all likelihood it is from the spreading of fertilizer. I'll check further when I leave here today and head out that way. Thank you for your patience in this matter. 9/10/2026.

Verona City Hall will not be issuing burn permits at least thru Thursday, Sept 3rd.
We strongly urge you to avoid burning anything, as even a stray ash can cause a fire.

Ozarks and extreme southeast Kansas.
DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

Weather hazards expected...

Elevated extreme heat risk.
Elevated fire weather risk.

DISCUSSION...

Hot and dry weather ahead to begin the week, with minimum
afternoon relative humidity values around 25 to 35 percent.
South- southwest winds this afternoon, with occasional wind gusts
up to 20 to 25 mph. This will support some highly localized fire
weather, particularly with regards to finer fuels such as grass.
This is for areas west of the Highway 65 corridor.

Highs this afternoon in the middle 90s to low 100s. Maximum
afternoon heat index values around 100 to 105. Minimal overnight
relief with lows in the middle to upper 70s.

This dog is currently being housed at the Verona Doggy Jail. We have had him since Wednesday August 26. We are allowed to keep dogs for up to 7 days. Please contact City Hall at 417-498-6725 for fees to bust this vagabond free.
For you old people, like me, out there, he reminds me a bit of the RCA Dog. What do you think?
