🎂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MILLIE BUNNELL!

Today we celebrate a woman whose determination helped ensure that a piece of Vero Beach history would still be standing for generations to come.

When the Heritage Center faced the threat of demolition in the early 1990s, Millie Bunnell helped lead the fight to save it. Because she believed this building — and the history held within its walls — was worth preserving, the community rallied together.

The Heritage Center was saved, restored, and placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Today, its doors continue to open for our community and for visitors to the Indian River Citrus Museum — carrying forward the history Millie worked so hard to protect.

Happy Birthday, Millie!
Your legacy lives on every time these historic doors open. ❤️

Your Support Is Making a Difference! 🍊
We are excited to share one of the projects made possible by the incredible sponsors, donors, and supporters of our Deeply Rooted event this past April!

Thanks to your generosity, three windows in the Honeybell Suite have now been reconstructed, helping us continue the important work of caring for and preserving our historic 1935 Heritage Center.

These beautiful new windows are more than an improvement to the building—they’re a reminder of what our community can accomplish together. Every sponsorship, donation, ticket purchased, and contribution to Deeply Rooted helps us invest directly back into this treasured piece of Vero Beach history.

And there’s more progress ahead! The Honeybell Suite will be back in commission in just a few months, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back into the space.

To everyone who supported Deeply Rooted: THANK YOU. Your generosity is helping us preserve our past while preparing the Heritage Center for its future. 🍊❤️

Welcome to the Vero Heritage Board, Jason Beal! 🍊

Vero Heritage is proud to welcome Jason Beal as the newest member of our Board of Directors!

A fifth-generation Indian River County native, Jason has deep roots in the community and a family history woven into the earliest days of Vero Beach. His Beal ancestors, along with his maternal Reams and Knight families, were among the early settlers of John’s Island, where they farmed beans and helped shape the community we know today. His family’s agricultural legacy continued into the citrus industry, with his grandfather serving as a citrus grower and co-owner of White Groves in the 1960s.

Earlier this year, we had the privilege of recognizing Jason and his family’s local legacy as an honoree at our Deeply Rooted Gala. We’re thrilled that he will now play an active role in helping Vero Heritage preserve and share the stories of our community for generations to come.

Jason brings more than 31 years of experience in the title insurance industry as the owner of Atlantic Coastal Land Title Company.

Please join us in giving Jason a warm welcome to the Vero Heritage Board! We are excited to have another generation of local history helping us preserve the stories, places, and traditions that make Indian River County home. 🍊
