It is with profound sadness that the Indian River County Property Appraiser’s Office announces the passing of former Congressman William “Bill” Posey.
On May 9, 2026, our community lost a dedicated public servant, a steadfast advocate for Florida’s Space Coast and Treasure Coast, and a man of principle whose life was defined by integrity, service, and love for his home. Congressman Posey, who represented Florida’s 8th Congressional District—including all of Indian River County—from 2009 to 2025, departed this life at the age of 78.

For decades, Bill Posey stood as a tireless champion for the values and interests of our residents. From his early days in local government and business to his distinguished tenure in the Florida Legislature and the United States Congress, he worked with unwavering resolve to protect our natural treasures, strengthen our economy, support our space and defense industries, and preserve the American ideals that make this region so special. He embodied the spirit of public service at its finest. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and all who were touched by his life. May his memory inspire future generations to serve with the same honor and dedication he displayed throughout his distinguished career. Rest in peace, Congressman Posey. Your service to Indian River County and the nation will not be forgotten.

Recently, the Taxpayers Association of Indian River County hosted our April Luncheon featuring a timely and substantive Property Tax Reform Panel at the Vero Beach Yacht Club.

We were honored to hear from County Commissioner Susan Adams and Property Appraiser Wesley Davis, who provided thoughtful insight into one of the most important issues facing our community. Commissioner Adams spoke in her capacity as the First Vice President for the Florida Association of Counties and Property Appraiser Davis shared his perspective as the First Vice President of the Property Appraisers’ Association of Florida.

Commissioner Adams spoke to the challenges local governments across Florida are navigating as property tax reform proposals evolve, particularly the uncertainty surrounding how these changes will impact long term budgeting, service delivery, and fiscal stability.

Property Appraiser Davis highlighted the key drivers behind rising property tax bills, including increased property values and the broader effects of national inflation, both of which continue to raise the cost of living and the cost of government operations.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to a productive discussion! These conversations are critical as we continue our mission of ensuring transparency, accountability, and sound fiscal policy across Indian River County.
