Indian River County has lifted the countywide burn ban, effective immediately, following recent rainfall and improved conditions.

The ban, originally issued on February 7, is no longer necessary as the risk of wildfires has been significantly reduced across the county.

Residents are still encouraged to use caution when conducting outdoor burning.

The Board of County Commissioners marked the ribbon cutting of Fire Station 7 Friday February 27th strengthening emergency response coverage along the State Road 60 corridor west of I-95.
The 9,035 square foot, three bay facility was delivered on time and under budget, while enhancing operational readiness for our growing community.
Fire Chief David Johnson, Chairman Deryl Loar, County Administrator John A. Titkanich, Jr., Robert Loring, Community Development Director for the City of Fellsmere, IAFF President Christen Brewer, and Project Manager Andrew Orndorff participated in the program.
Thank you to all who attended to celebrate this important milestone!

Because of expected cold temperatures and wind chill, The Salvation Army (SA) will open a Cold Weather Shelter tonight (02/23/26) and tomorrow night through Tuesday morning (02/24/26) operating 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
The shelter is located at 2655 5th Street SW, Vero Beach, FL, 32962 and will serve the first 40 registrants. Clients will be accepted until 9:00 PM and a light meal will be provided. For any questions, please call 772-453-5383. The American Red Cross and United Way are supporting The Salvation Army’s shelter operations.
Take protective actions for vulnerable populations, pets, and plants/agricultural products. Use caution while operating internal heating sources and keep flammable items at least three feet from heaters or other heat sources. Freezing conditions may damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
