Power Restoration Update – Thursday 12/18, Evening

WOEC crews made steady progress throughout the day restoring power across our system. After nearly 40 continuous hours of storm response, we are now rotating crews on and off to prioritize rest and safety as restoration efforts continue.

Current work underway includes:

*A crew headed south starting at the Haskins Metering Point, working through Puddy Gulch, Meadow lake, Moores Valley, and Flying M, then moving north to begin repairs in the Patton Valley (Mt. Richmond, South Rd.), Hagg Lake, and Pumpkin Ridge areas.

*Crews continuing work on remaining outages in the Vernonia, Elsie/Necanicum, and Chapman areas.

*The other remaining outages will be addressed as crews become available.

Mutual aid resources are limited due to the widespread, statewide impacts of this storm; however, we appreciate the assistance of a crew from Forest Grove Light & Power who is supporting our restoration efforts.

Depending on damage conditions encountered, some of the remaining outages may continue overnight.

Storm restoration affects our entire organization, while line crews and right-of-way crews battle challenging conditions in the field, our dispatchers, member service team, warehouse staff, and others continue working behind the scenes to support restoration. Thank you to this amazing team!

Our thoughts are with those members who remain without power. We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and support as we continue working safely to restore service.

WOEC is preparing for another round of high winds and heavy rain. We encourage all of our members to be prepared for extended power outages. For more information on outage preparedness, visit https://www.ready.gov/power-outages.

đź’¨ Strong winds are expected tomorrow (Dec 18) across the region. Soils are already saturated, so trees and power lines will be susceptible to falling. Make sure to secure outdoor objects that can easily blow around and move away from any downed power lines.

Power Restoration Update – Thursday 12/18, Morning

BPA and WOEC crews worked through the night to restore power to as many members as possible. We’re pleased to share that the BPA transmission issues have been resolved, allowing us to continue making progress across our system.

Restoration efforts are ongoing with all available WOEC crews working throughout our service territory, along with mutual aid support from neighboring utilities. Due to extensive storm damage, some members—particularly those in remote or heavily wooded areas—may remain without power through today and into this evening. We will share another update later today. We encourage everyone to stay safe and plan accordingly.

Recent forecasts indicate the potential for additional disruptive weather, including windy and gusty conditions into tonight and tomorrow. Crews will continue working as long as conditions remain safe, but additional or extended outages are possible.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as our crews work to restore service safely.

As crews continue working to restore power after last night’s windstorm, we’re also preparing for additional disruptive weather forecasted for tomorrow evening and Friday.

Fallen trees, downed lines, and broken poles across our service territory take time to safely repair. Our crews will work around the clock to keep the lights on, but we encourage members to be prepared for extended outages—some of which may be outside our control on the transmission side.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as our crews work through these conditions.

🌧️ A strong atmospheric river will bring heavy rain and widespread river flooding across northwest Oregon and southwest Washington on Thursday. Some rivers may continue to flood through at least Saturday. Heavy rain may also bring landslides as well as flooding of urban and low-lying areas, creeks, and streams. If you live in a flood-prone area, have a plan ready!

Power Restoration Update – Wednesday 12/17, 4:30 PM

WOEC crews worked overnight Tuesday and throughout the day today to clear fallen trees, repair downed lines, and replace damaged poles.

At this time, more than 4,000 meters remain without power, but crews are making steady progress.

In addition to damage within our system, repairs are also needed on the transmission lines feeding our substations. Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) crews are working diligently to complete those repairs. We are coordinating closely with BPA and will re-energize the Timber Substation once their work is complete. If all goes as planned, this will allow us to restore service to Vernonia.

We have 4 crews working in the Vernonia, Mist, and Chapman, areas. As progress is made, they will move on to the remaining outages.

We will share more information as it becomes available.
