Something exciting is hatching! Alabama Extension is launching new Facebook and Instagram pages dedicated to all things backyard poultry.
Whether you already have a flock or are planning to start one, follow along for research-based information to help you care for healthy, productive birds.

To celebrate the launch and National Chicken Month, we’re hosting a Backyard Poultry Photo Contest! Share a photo of your favorite hen, prized rooster or entire backyard flock for a chance to win.

How to enter:

Two winners will be selected:

More great news today, Lamar County 4-H’ers win the Golden Egg Contest 2 years in a row! 🍀🍀🍀 Congratulations Elizabeth and Alaina Knight!

The 2026 State Poultry Judging Contest was a huge success for our Tri-County teams! We are so proud of all the hard work and dedication they put into this project.🍀

🏆 LC Bantams Team- (Alaina Knight, Lizzie Kelley, Jesse Knight)-Junior awards: 1st overall team past production hens, 2nd overall team parts, 2nd overall team market eggs, 2nd overall team junior.

🏆 Chickadees Team- (Elizabeth Knight, Elaina Agoston and Ella Grace Thompson) Senior awards: 2nd overall team hens, eggs, parts, 2nd place senior team overall.

🏆 Jesse Knight-1st individual past production hens junior, 1st overall junior.

🏆 Alaina Knight- 2nd Junior individual parts, 3rd Junior individual market eggs, 2nd overall Junior.

🏆 Elizabeth Knight- 1st senior individual market eggs, 8th overall senior.

A huge thank you to our volunteer leader Amanda Knight for leading this club and sharing your knowledge with the group.
