High temperatures are forecast to impact the region and taking precautions is the most important way to prevent heat-related illness. Happy Labor Day from the City of Vernon! Today, we recognize the people who keep our community moving forward. Your hard work, dedication, and everyday contributions do not go unnoticed. Vernon’s workforce and the businesses that call our City home have shaped our past, present, and future - and we're grateful!

The Southern California Public Power Authority hosted its annual Policy Staff Tour in July, bringing together state legislative and regulatory staff to learn more about the key issues facing public power and see firsthand how municipal utilities are helping to meet California’s policy goals.

The tour stopped in Vernon, where Vernon Public Utilities (VPU) staff shared how the City is supporting large-load developments, highlighting the factors that make Vernon an ideal location for such projects - available power capacity, affordable utility rates, and award-winning reliability. VPU serves a diverse range of large customers, including fleet electrification sites and a clean hydrogen facility.

🐾 Welcome to the Vernon Police Department, Police K-9 Max! 🚔

The Vernon Police Department welcomed a new four-legged member to the team as part of the effort to reinstate the department’s K-9 Program. Before officially serving the City of Vernon, K-9 Officer Escobedo and Max are attending a six-week Basic K-9 Handler’s Course at Adlerhorst International Training Facility. The program will help build the skills and teamwork needed to become a successful K-9 team.

We’re excited to follow Max and Officer Escobedo’s progress and look forward to the important role they will play in supporting the Vernon community. 🐶💙
