On August 9th 2026 we had a great training burn, however the day came with some sad news for our department. On August 10th Battalion Chief Schulpius submitted his resignation/retirement from the Vernon Fire Department. BC Schulpius started on The Big Bend Vernon Fire Department in June of 2008 and became a charter member of the Vernon Fire Department in December of 2010. He has held many positions including firefighter/EMT, Firefighter/Paramedic, Lieutenant and he became a Battalion Chief in October of 2019. As a Battalion Chief one of his main responsibilities was as our training officer. There are many career firefighters around the State that he helped influence and trained that assisted them in their careers. He also was responsible for the recruitment and hiring and setting up interviews of our new members. He was responsible for covering as a chief officer on many days throughout his time here. While doing all this for the Village of Vernon he was also advancing in his full time career, he was promoted to Lieutenant on the Wauwatosa Fire Department, then applying for and being hired on New Berlin as a Battalion Chief, where he continues his career. His family, work and home commitments made it difficult for him to continue at Vernon FD. We wish Justin continued success in his full time career and want to thank him for all his time and dedication to the residents of Vernon in his over 18 years of dedicated service to our “family”.
