Uintah County Sheriff Steve Labrum Elected President of Utah Sheriffs Association

The Utah Sheriffs Association has elected Uintah County Sheriff Steve Labrum as its president for 2026–27. Labrum, who previously served as the association’s secretary, succeeds Kane County Sheriff Tracy Glover.
As president, Labrum will lead the association’s executive team and help guide its work on issues affecting sheriffs’ offices and the communities they serve. The association brings Utah’s sheriffs together to share resources, strengthen professional training, collaborate on public safety challenges, and advocate for policies informed by their experience serving communities across the state.
The 2026–27 leadership team is:
• President: Sheriff Steve Labrum, Uintah County
• First Vice President: Sheriff Nathan Curtis, Sevier County
• Second Vice President: Sheriff Eric Houston, Garfield County
• Secretary: Sheriff Ken Carpenter, Iron County
• Immediate Past President: Sheriff Tracy Glover, Kane County
• Past President: Sheriff Mike Smith, Utah County
“It's an honor to serve as president of the Utah Sheriffs Association alongside sheriffs who represent such a wide range of communities,” said Labrum. “Our counties face different challenges, but we’re stronger when we share what we’ve learned, find common ground and support one another in serving the people of Utah.”
Labrum steps into the presidency after serving alongside Glover during his term. As immediate past president, Glover will continue to provide continuity and perspective to the leadership team. Smith, who preceded Glover as president, will serve as past president.

On Saturday, September 19, Uintah County Search and Rescue was dispatched to Via Ferrata, northwest of Vernal at the Ashley Gorge, on a female with a broken ankle.
Search and rescue members hiked into the area where the injured female was located and was able to stabilize her for airlift. A Department of Public Safety helicopter responded to the area and was able to airlift the victim from Via Ferrata where she was able to get further treatment.

We appreciate the members of Search and Rescue who donate their time and talents to assist people, not only in our county, but all over the state. We also appreciate the Department of Public Safety, Utah Division of Natural Resources, and Gold Cross for their assistance.

Wendi and Devin. We hurt with you

Today we honor the life and service of Spencer Long, a dedicated member of Utah Task Force 1 whose commitment to serving others exemplified the very best of the National Urban Search & Rescue Response System.

Spencer joined UT-TF1 in 2022 and proudly served as both a Rescue Specialist and Hazardous Materials Specialist. As a member of one of the nation’s 28 FEMA Urban Search & Rescue Task Forces, he trained tirelessly, answered the call without hesitation, and stood ready to deploy whenever communities needed help most. His professionalism, humility, and commitment to excellence earned the respect of everyone who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Spencer’s family, friends, coworkers, and the entire UT-TF1 family during this incredibly difficult time. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, the teammates he inspired, and the mission he so proudly served.
