Summer reading program week 2!!🪼🪸🌊 This week we talked about the sunlit zone of the ocean, and two of the sea animals that live in it, sea turtles and jellyfish! We learned a couple of facts about both, and made our own to take home! After we finished with that, we broke out the sea themed puzzles, and worked in groups to finish them. To wrap it up, Christy Crabtree Cracraft read us a book about the whole ocean🌊🪸🛥️

Next week we will cover the ✨Twilight Zone✨

Today was the first meeting of the 𝓓𝓲𝓿𝓮 𝓲𝓷𝓽𝓸 𝓡𝓮𝓪𝓭𝓲𝓷𝓰 summer reading program!🌊🪸🐙 We talked about the animals, plants, and shipwrecks you might see in the ocean, then introduced the 5 different zones of the ocean(we will explore one each week). We took our paper boats outside for paper boat races, made oceans in a bottle, came back inside to read a story, and left with our jello ocean snacks and reading logs!

Next week we will be getting into the sunlit zone of the ocean👀☀️

This year for our daily check in, kids can stop in and pop open one of the ⚪️pearls⚪️ on the main kids bookshelf, and get a piece of candy, a prize, or a try again tomorrow. Stop by to join the ✨fun!✨

The library is ready for the summer reading program tomorrow! Join us 1-2pm on Tuesdays to dive into all things ocean🌊🪸🐙

📚✨May librarian book recommendation of the month! At the end of each month, one of the books from our collection that our librarian Abby read and loved will be featured! There will be a little blurb about the book and some thoughts from Abby! We will do our best to span multiple genres😊📚

This month I am recommending: Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Everyone knows DAISY JONES & THE SIX, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now. Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The s*x and drugs are thrilling, but it's the rock 'n' roll she loves most. By the time she's twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she's pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road. Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend. The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.

✨Full disclosure, I did not have a book picked out for May, so I picked this one up off our shelves today and quite literally devoured it! Incredible writing, the documentary style story telling is so unique and cool. The way it allows for breaking of the fourth wall by the interviewer was genius. The author writes in her acknowledgements that the events of the fictional band in this book are loosely based on Fleetwood Mac, and if you know the lore there you will love this one. Off to go watch the show on Amazon🏃‍♀️💨😂✨
