Absentee voting has begun for the July 28th Runoff Election! You must be a registered Republican to vote in this election. The voter registration deadline is July 13th. To check your voter registration, visit the Voter Information Portal at https://vip.sdsos.gov/VIPLogin.aspx or contact the Auditor's Office.

Again, we apologize for the construction confusion! If you are visiting the courthouse, the best, and only, construction-free entrance to use is through the annex off the parking lot on the north side of the building. All other entrances are currently under some type of construction. PLEASE do not use the east door at this time. We have heavy construction just inside the entrance!

"Where do I go?" A lot of changes are happening in the courthouse! Here is what you need to know when you come to the courthouse. First, construction is still happening, just on a smaller scale. Please be mindful of signs and barricades. Second, the Treasurer's Office and State's Attorney's Office are in the annex. You can use that entrance, or you can enter through the courthouse by using the brick archway. For security purposes, we will be restricting entrance to the courthouse via the door on the EAST side of the building or from inside through the annex.

Auditor Carri Crum, Chief Deputy Auditor Nicole Klunder, and Deputy Auditor Gelynn Passmore completed voluntary training through the US Election Assistance Commission and received a Certificate of Federal Professional Training. Carri accepted the certificates on behalf of the office at the Recognition Ceremony held in conjunction with the annual US EAC Standards Board Meeting in Chicago. We strive to always expand our knowledge so we are able to deliver the BEST service to our Clay County voters!

The included press release helps to explain the delay in receiving ballots for absentee voting. However, it should be noted that Clay County’s legal counsel and insurance provider’s legal counsel have advised against using sample ballots for actual absentee voting. We will not be using sample ballots. Using an official ballot is important to ensure your vote is counted without challenge. This helps protect the security of the election process and ensures your vote remains confidential.

Please take note of the message sent out by the United States Postal Service. With property tax deadlines fast approaching if you are planning on mailing in your payment, please consider mailing it early to avoid interest fees due to a late postmark.

Attention! If you received a text message stating that your vehicle has an outstanding traffic infraction recorded in the MVD database and requesting payment, it is a scam. The Motor Vehicle Division does not impose traffic violations and would not ask that you pay our agency for those infractions.

The Clay County Treasurer’s Office will be closed on March 5th & 6th, 2026. During this time, our office will move from the 2nd floor of the Clay County Courthouse to the 1st floor in the new Courthouse Annex. (the old safety center/jail area). The office will be re-open for regular hours 8:00 am - 4:30 pm on Monday, March 9, 2026.
