Veterans Home of California - Ventura

Veterans Home of California - Ventura Highway 101. The United States Naval Base Ventura County is located close by.

Completed in December 2009, the beautiful Veterans Home of California-Ventura is a 60-bed Residential Care Facility for the Elderly, also known as assisted living. The Veterans Home of California–Ventura is located near the gleaming California Pacific Ocean coastline, about an hour’s drive northwest of Los Angeles, 35 miles south of Santa Barbara and a few short minutes off U.S. Ventura is situated between the Ventura River and the Santa Clara River, with soil so fertile that citrus trees grow better in Ventura than anywhere else in the state. Completed in December 2009, the beautiful Veterans Home of California–Ventura is a 60-bed Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE), also known as assisted living. All healthcare needs, meals, transportation and activities are provided by the Veterans Home of California–Ventura, in partnership with the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. If you have ever visited the Veterans Home of California - Ventura, you may have noticed the stunning garden in the back, a sight that can take the breath away from even the most hardened spirits. You might be curious about the people who maintain the intricate beauty of this beloved garden. Look no further than the dedicated volunteers known as the Ventura County Master Gardeners of the UC Master Gardener Program of Ventura County. Here's a lovely photo we captured of them after their work this morning.

On most Tuesdays and Fridays, this group of passionate individuals works diligently to ensure that our community can enjoy fresh fruits, vegetables, and memorial flowers year-round. Their efforts create an incredible space for our residents to relax, sunbathe, and take peaceful walks right in our backyard. We are deeply grateful for this team's work and hope you will help us spread the word about the meaningful contributions they are making to our beloved Ventura County and City of Ventura - Government!

The Veterans Home of California - Ventura recently had a wonderful conversation with Ed, an Air Force veteran with a wealth of knowledge that is hard to put into words. He shared some fantastic stories that gave us plenty of laughs, especially when he talked about Gustave Whitehead, a Connecticut-based inventor who achieved flight a few years before the Wright Brothers' famous Kitty Hawk adventure. Our home is filled with valuable stories and experiences, and these moments truly uplift our community’s spirit. When I asked Ed what he would like to share with anyone curious about life at the Veterans Home of California - Ventura, he replied, "Tell them that this is a cruise ship that never leaves the dock." Well said, Ed! This one's for you, Sir.

Throughout our journey in life, we meet countless faces that leave lasting impressions on our hearts. When we encounter someone truly kind, gentle, and selfless, the moments we share with them become cherished memories. Just a week ago, we had the bittersweet honor of sharing our final moments with our dear Deputy Administrator, Cindy, at the Veterans Home of California - Ventura.

As Cindy retires and prepares to move to the beautiful state of Illinois for a new opportunity, our hearts are heavy with sadness. We will miss her dearly, but we also feel overwhelming joy for her as she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her life. She truly deserves every bit of happiness that comes her way.

For many years, Cindy has been a steadfast champion for our Home, working alongside Ray and other dedicated administrators. Her unwavering commitment to supporting California's veterans and our wonderful staff has turned our Home into a sanctuary for the community. We are immensely grateful for her selfless leadership and for always putting others first, setting an example that inspires us all.

Please join us in congratulating Cindy on her remarkable career with the State of California. Let us wish her all the love and happiness as she steps into this new adventure. She will always hold a special place in our hearts.

The Veterans Home of California - Ventura is thrilled to welcome Mike, our newest community member!

Hailing from Minnesota, Mike dedicated an impressive 22 years of his life to serving in the U.S. Navy before making Ventura County his home in 1975. After hanging up his uniform, he became a general contractor and even built his very own house right here in Ventura!

Mike’s family is quite the crew. He’s a proud dad of nine, including five wonderful adopted children, with family members spread across the country. Thankfully, he has a daughter who lives nearby and visits him often, which is always a joy.

In his downtime, Mike loves to kick back with a good TV show and enjoy a hearty meal. When we asked him if he'd like to share anything special, his heartfelt answer was simply his faith. We hope you will receive Mike's blessing of peace over your life and that you're comforted by his words whenever you encounter difficulty.

Thank you for your service, Mike! We're so happy to have you in our community, and we're excited to share your story!

We remember the fallen by honoring the bonds they shared with those who served beside them. Comrades, brothers, and sisters in arms. Their legacy lives on through every life they touched and every freedom they helped protect.

This week has been a great time for our community as we celebrate Nurses Week and Public Service Recognition Week. Nurses Day was on May 6th, and we held an awesome employee recognition ceremony to spotlight our nurses and other amazing team members who work hard to make the Veterans Home of California - Ventura a fantastic place for our residents. We were excited to have Mr. Coby Petersen, the Deputy Secretary of Veterans Homes at the California Department of Veterans Affairs, join us to celebrate. Our Home's Administrator, Mr. Ray Sena, did a fantastic job leading the ceremony, and our residents had a fantastic time enjoying the show!
