🏃‍♀️💨 HISTORY MADE!

Congratulations to Ventura High School graduate and Harvard-bound distance runner Aelo Curtis on an incredible finish to her high school career!

Aelo won the prestigious Brooks PR Invitational Mile in Seattle, running 4:39.11 for the full mile. That performance converts to 4:37.47 for 1,600 meters, making her the third-fastest female miler in Ventura County history. She now trails only fellow Ventura High legend Sadie Engelhardt (4:29.86) and Sam McDonnell (4:37.37).

What an incredible accomplishment and a fitting way to close out a remarkable career in the black and gold. We can't wait to see what Aelo accomplishes next at Harvard!

Thank you to the Ventura County Star and Dominic Massimino for continuing to highlight local student-athletes and their achievements.

Board of Education Welcomes New Lemon Grove Principal

At the June 9 Regular Meeting of the Ventura Unified Board of Education, trustees welcomed Lindsay Guzik as the new principal of Lemon Grove School.

Ms. Guzik will succeed retiring Principal Susan Martinez. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Principal Martinez for her many years of dedication and service to Ventura Unified School District. Her commitment to students, staff, and families has made a lasting impact, and she will be greatly missed.

Many in the Ventura Unified community may recognize Ms. Guzik from her previous roles as a teacher at Sunset School and as an assistant principal at both Cabrillo Middle School and Ventura High School. We look forward to the leadership, experience, and enthusiasm she brings to Lemon Grove School.

As we wrap up an incredible school year, we're looking back at one of the sweetest moments from E.P. Foster Elementary! 💙

TK student Abigail stepped into the role of "Principal for a Day" and absolutely rose to the occasion. From helping with morning greetings to visiting classrooms and spreading smiles across campus, Abigail brought enthusiasm, leadership, and joy to everyone she met.

Moments like these remind us that our future is in excellent hands. Thank you, Abigail, for showing us what leadership looks like at any age!

Enjoy these photos of our rising leader in action. 🌟

Looking for a fun way to keep your child reading and learning this summer? 📚☀️

Our friends at Ventura County Library have launched their free 2026 Summer Reading Program, Plant a Seed, Read! Open to children, teens, and adults, the program includes reading challenges, free events, activities, prizes, and even a free book for every child 18 and under who registers.

Research shows that reading during the summer helps students maintain and strengthen the skills they learned during the school year. Best of all, students are more likely to read when they can choose books and topics that interest them.

Families can sign up now and explore a full summer of learning, discovery, and fun at Ventura County Library branches throughout the county. Free Lunch at the Library programs will also be available at select locations this summer.
