Today, Ventura Communications Center (VCC) received reports of a traffic crash involving a Tesla Cybertruck into a ravine, in the area of SR-33 at Casitas Vista Road.

CHP Ventura Officers and Ventura County Fire responded. The driver was safely extricated and transported with minor injuries.

For reasons still under investigation the Tesla veered off the roadway, crashing into a vegetation embankment on the right shoulder. At the time of the crash, the roadway was wet.

With the rainy season coming up ahead, we remind you that wet roads reduce tire traction, limit vehicle control, and increase stopping distances. Slow down, leave extra space between vehicles, use your headlights, and avoid sudden braking, acceleration, or steering.

HIGH SPEED STOP ⚡️

Today at approximately 0610 hours, a CHP Ventura Motor Officer stopped a white Infiniti sedan on US-101 southbound at Victoria Avenue for traveling 102 MPH in a posted 65 MPH zone.

The driver was determined to be unlicensed, cited, and the vehicle was impounded.

Excessive speed drastically reduces a driver’s reaction time and increases the risk of serious or fatal collisions. Slow down, obey posted speed limits, and drive to arrive safely.

As we head into Labor Day weekend, the California Highway Patrol will begin a Holiday Enforcement Period (HEP) beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and continue through 11:59 p.m. on Monday.

During the HEP, CHP officers will be out in force with a strong focus on removing impaired drivers from our roadways. If your Labor Day plans include alcohol, plan ahead and designate a sober driver, use a ride-share service, or arrange for a safe ride home.

A DUI is completely preventable. Don’t risk your life or the lives of others by driving impaired.

Please buckle up, obey posted speed limits, eliminate distractions, and drive responsibly.

🚸 School Zone Enforcement 🚸

This morning, CHP Ventura’s Community Oriented Policing (COPs) Team conducted school zone enforcement at Rio Plaza Elementary.

School zones are busy areas with students walking, biking, and being dropped off or picked up by parents and guardians. Slowing down, staying alert, and following posted traffic laws can make all the difference in keeping our youngest community members safe.

Today, at approximately 5:04 a.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Ventura Communications Center (VCC) began receiving calls reporting a vehicle that had traveled off the roadway on SR-1 (Pacific Coast Highway) S/B at Mugu Rock.

Emergency personnel responded to the area and located the vehicle seventy-five feet down a cliff and onto the rocks along the shoreline. The vehicle was determined to be a gray 2006 Honda Accord with a solo male occupant still seated in the driver’s seat. Upon contact, the driver was alert, conscious, and communicating with emergency personnel.

Preliminary information and witness statements obtained at the scene indicate a 37-year-old male from Oxnard was driving the Honda Accord south on SR-1 approaching Mugu Rock at a high rate of speed. For reasons that remin under investigation, the driver turned his vehicle to the right, traveled off the roadway, struck a rock before plummeting seventy-five feet off a cliff and onto the rocky shoreline.

Fire personnel were able to safely extricate the driver from the vehicle. The driver appeared to have sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital by ground ambulance.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding this crash. At this time, it is unknown whether alcohol and/or drugs were a factor.

STOLEN VEHICLE OCCUPIED

This week, a CHP Ventura Officer located a stolen, occupied vehicle in an unincorporated area of Ventura County along the Pacific Coast Highway.

Upon the arrival of a CHP Ventura Motor Officer, a high-risk traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was safely taken into custody without incident. The driver was subsequently arrested pursuant to Vehicle Code 10851 for grand theft auto.

Our officers remain vigilant throughout Ventura County, working to identify stolen vehicles and hold those responsible accountable.

CHP Ventura has been actively working in partnership with Caltrans to identify and clean up illegal encampments along our local freeways.

Keeping these areas clear is important for the safety and well-being of our communities. Encampments near the roadway can create hazards for both those living in the area and passing motorists, while also contributing to debris and other safety concerns.

Our officers will continue working alongside Caltrans and our community partners to address these areas, improve roadway safety, and keep our highways clean and accessible for everyone.

Today, Ventura CHP Officers responded to a traffic crash on US-101 northbound, just north of Camarillo Springs Road. During the investigation, it was determined that the vehicle veered toward the right shoulder and crashed with the guardrail.

CHP, Ventura County Fire, and AMR responded. Thankfully, the driver sustained only minor injuries.

When traffic backs up, remember there may be an emergency ahead. Slow down, stay alert, and be prepared for sudden changes in traffic. Give yourself and emergency responders room to safely navigate the roadway.

In an effort to reduce the number of motorcycle crashes, the Ventura Area will deploy additional officers August 12, 2026, on the US 101 freeway. Officers will look for violations by both motorcycle riders and drivers that make roads dangerous for other traffic, including unsafe speed, following too closely, unsafe lane changes, and improper turning.
 
Motorcycle-involved crashes in California continue to be a major concern for the California Highway Patrol (CHP).  From January 2024 through December 2024, provisional statistical data revealed there were 71 injury crashes involving motorcycles and 4 fatal crashes involving motorcycles in the CHP Ventura Area jurisdiction.
 
Funding for these operations are provided by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Titled “Get Educated and Ride Safe (GEARS) VIII, the grant funding assists the CHP in reducing deadly and serious injury crashes involving motorcycles, The Ventura Area will continue to deploy additional enforcement efforts through September 30, 2026.
