The Ventura County Community College District Police Department employs sworn police officers who are vested with full arrest authority in the state of California pursuant to California Penal Code 830.32 and California Education Code 72330. The Police Department is recognized by, and adheres strictly to, the State of California Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) guidelines. The department has been charged with providing law enforcement, security, investigations, and parking/traffic control for students, faculty, staff and visitors on all properties owned and operated by the Ventura County Community College District. Officers' primary jurisdiction includes all properties owned and operated by the VCCCD, including adjacent public streets. However, their authority may extend to any place in the State of California. Officers patrol all VCCCD campuses by vehicle, foot, and bicycle; and are trained to respond to all calls, including active shooter incidents. The VCCCD Police Department currently contracts with the CSUCI Police Department dispatch services for each of our campuses. These services are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. These are trained, professional dispatchers that answer calls from each of the campuses' direct phone lines, as well as 9-1-1 and all emergency blue phones. The VCCCD Police Department cooperates fully with local, state and federal laws. The Department identifies all crimes in categories of Part I or Part II crimes. Part I crimes include crimes such as murder, r**e, aggravated robbery, etc. These crimes require that the VCCCD Police Department maintain a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with neighboring police agencies to provide resources to investigate such crimes. Part II crimes, such as assault, drug/alcohol violations, vandalism, disturbing the peace, hate crimes, etc., are handled by the VCCCD police.

Members of our Department joined our brothers and sisters of the Ventura Fire Honor Guard for their Memorial Stair Climb, honoring the 343 firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, and 37 Port Authority Police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001. Each step taken was a tribute to a fallen first responder, service member, or someone special.

We were honored to walk, run, and climb alongside our first responder partners in remembering those who gave everything.

Last week, we recognized a few members of our Department for their dedication and outstanding service.

Congratulations to Lieutenant Pallotto and Officer Fernandez on reaching an incredible milestone of 20 years of service. Their commitment to serving our college community has made a lasting impact on our Department and those we serve.

We also recognized Cadets Manriquez, Vergara, and Birruete (not pictured) with Certificates of Achievement for their exceptional work performance and contributions to the Department. Their hard work and commitment exemplify the future of law enforcement.

This morning, Officers Valdez and Mejia had the privilege to participate in the Ventura County Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony’s Honor Guard, remembering and honoring local law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. This is also our opportunity to pay our respects to local peace officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, including one of our own, Officer James Doyle, EOW: 03/23/1975.

The VCCCD Police Department invites all students, faculty, staff, and the community to join us for a community presentation to share the required Annual Military Equipment Report and our Military Equipment Policy and inventory.

The report and corresponding community meeting are part of legislation intended to increase public transparency and provide government oversight when we seek to fund, acquire, and use military equipment as defined by statute. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and voice concerns about our equipment, how it is used, and how it is funded.
