Executive order #133 takes effect at sunrise on Saturday, May 2 and allows state parks to open to the public for passive recreation, including, boating, walking, running or jogging and many other outdoor activities when social distancing can be maintained.
With this new guideline, we are happy to take a small step towards reopening our public spaces:
VENTNOR WILL OPEN THE BEACHES FOR PASSIVE RECREATION AT SUNRISE FRIDAY, MAY 8.
THE BOARDWALK WILL REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
PERMITTED ACTIVITIES ON THE BEACH:
Walking - Running/Jogging – Exercising- Dog Walking (on leash only in accordance with local ordinance 72-6n) - All while maintaining social distancing.
PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES ON THE BEACH:
No Swimming - No Sunbathing - No Sitting in Chairs/Towels - No Organized Sports - No Groups of People – No Surfing
NO ACCESS TO BOARDWALK OTHER THAN CROSSING TO THE BEACH
At 14 feet wide, the boardwalk does not fit the guidelines for effective social distancing. The Ski Beach boat ramp will also reopen on May 8 for launching and recovery of watercraft only.
We believe these measures are in keeping with the spirit of the executive orders and have proven to discourage the surge in population that is counterproductive in reducing the spread of the novel virus Covid -19 in Ventnor. We continue to discourage ALL homeowners, full time and seasonal, from unnecessary travel or large gatherings that may contribute to the spread of Covid -19.
We all feel the same relief when the sun hits our skin and the saltwater hits our feet and the same joy watching our families grow up near the ocean.
The entire Ventnor City workforce including Beth, Lance, and I have worked to create more reasons for EVERYONE to visit, live, dine or shop in Ventnor. We look forward to welcoming ALL our residents and guests to enjoy all Ventnor has to offer when the time is right. Please continue to follow this page and our website www.ventnorcity.org for our current policy regarding Covid-19.
We thank you for your cooperation in this effort. Please continue to wear masks in public, practice social distancing and wash your hands frequently.
Keep yourselves and each other well. See you on the beach from six feet away next Friday, May 8.
