On Monday, June 8 at 12:01 am, Western Lane will enter Fire Season. At that time, Fire Danger for general public use will be listed at Low (Green). We will post updates on this page as the Season progresses. Our cover photo will change to show the Fire Danger levels once we enter fire season. The first update will occur on Monday morning after 8:00 am. You can also call 541-935-2222 to get the current Fire Danger and Industrial Fire Precaution Levels (IFPLs). For industrial operations, the IFPL will be level 1 in both WT-1 and SL-2. IFPLs are for industrial operators who have filed special permits through our office and should not be confused with the public use restrictions for the general public.

Please use caution when burning before the deadline: clear an area around piles, monitor, and have water and tools onsite. Ensure the fire is completely out to prevent any rekindles.

REMINDER! ๐Ÿ”ฅ Escaped debris burns are the number one cause of fires in Oregon. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Itโ€™s that time of year againโ€”every spring we see escaped debris burns. This year, they are happening earlier due to the dry winter and the unseasonably warm temperatures weโ€™ve had this week.

Itโ€™s always a good idea to think twice before lighting your debris piles in the spring to make sure they wonโ€™t escape. Check out our video for tips on how to cover all the bases when burning your piles.

Oregon now has a second website with information about emerald ash borer (EAB) and what to do about it The state's comprehensive website OregonEAB.com has been joined by a new webpage put together by the Oregon IPM Center, based at the OSU College of Agriculture.

The Center works with university researchers, OSU Extension agents, farmers, and state and federal agencies to promote integrated pest management (IPM) in the region, including pests like EAB (see photo by Debbie Miller via Bugwood.org). EAB is killing ash trees in Oregon and much of the U.S. The new site is at https://extension.oregonstate.edu/collection/emerald-ash-borer-resources

Effective 12:01 am, Saturday, October 11, Fire Season officially ends! We want to thank everyone for once again helping to keep Western Lane safe from fires. We appreciate all those who have participated in both prevention and suppression efforts this summer, specifically our partners at all of the rural fire departments and neighboring fire protection agencies. While we are out of fire season officially, we ask that when you conduct backyard debris burning that you be very careful and keep an eye on your fire, burn in cleared areas, attend your burns at all times, as we have seen fires spread shortly after fire season in the past. More rains will be a great help in that regard. If you have logging slash to burn, slash burning is still closed โ€“ we will monitor the weather and open slash burning season once weโ€™ve received adequate rain. Please remember that paperwork and permitting is still conducted at your local ODF office, so please make sure you have everything in order before you proceed. Thank you!
