Lane Fire Authority

Dedicated to Service. Santa Clara Fire and Lane Fire Authority boards are in a 190 agreement that consolidates services. Our team of career and volunteer personnel responded to approximately 7,400 calls last year, 81% of which were EMS-related. We operate out of 14 stations, 3 of which have career staffing 24/7. Administration is based at our Veneta Headquarters Station; ambulance service operatio

ns are out of the Irving station. The remaining stations are supported by dedicated volunteers. Visit our District Map to see our stations and the communities we serve. We operate an Advanced Life Support ambulance service with an Ambulance Service Area that includes several fire districts and extends into two other counties.

What could district operations look like after June 30, 2026?
As we continue discussing the upcoming levy expiration, we want to provide information about how district operations may be affected under different funding levels.

If the current operations levy is not renewed, Lane Fire Authority would return to operating on its base budget beginning July 1, 2026. Under the current financial projections, this may affect up to eight firefighting positions and the staffing of the district’s remaining peak-hour ambulance.

If the levy is approved, the proposed operational plan includes restoring service levels and adding two firefighter positions to help address increasing call volume and service demand within the district.

Lane Fire Authority remains committed to providing factual information regarding district operations, staffing, and budgeting.

Additional information, including public budget documents and recordings of information sessions, is available on our website, page, and YouTube channel.

Where does Lane Fire Authority funding actually come from?
We often receive questions about how Lane Fire Authority is funded.

Lane Fire Authority does not receive operational funding from state, federal, county, or city budgets. Our primary source of revenue comes from local property taxes based on assessed value, not market value.

Under Oregon tax laws adopted in the 1990s, special districts like ours cannot increase operational funding without voter-approved local option levies.

Our current operations levy expires on June 30, 2026. The May election will determine the level of services we are able to provide moving forward under our operating budget.

We encourage community members to review the available public information regarding district operations and finances. For additional questions regarding district operations or funding information, community members may contact Fire Chief Dale Borland at [email protected]

Recordings of our public information sessions are available on our page and YouTube channel. Current budgets, expenditures, and monthly board meetings are also available on our website at: www.lanefire.org/boardmeetings

Today, we honor the career of Lieutenant Matthew Snauer, who retires after 29 years of service to his country, his community, and his crew.

Matt served seven years in the United States Air Force before beginning his fire service career with Cottage Grove Fire Department. He later joined Lane Rural Fire/Rescue, helping build the ambulance service that would become part of today’s Lane Fire Authority.

Throughout his career, Matt’s impact has been felt far beyond the calls he responded to. It lives on in the people he mentored.

He is the kind of leader who takes care of his crew, teaching those eager to learn, making sure no one went without a meal, and always showing up when it mattered most.

Even if you have never met him, our communities are stronger because of someone who learned from Lieutenant Snauer.

Matt, thank you for your service, your leadership, and the care you have given to this community.

We wish you all the best in retirement. You have more than earned it.

Lane Fire Authority responded to a mobile home fire on Delay Drive at approximately 7:20 p.m. yesterday evening.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the structure fully involved in flames. Due to the intensity of the fire and initial reports indicating a large amount of ammunition inside the home, crews implemented a defensive strategy to contain the fire and protect nearby structure.

The homeowner reported that an indoor space heater, rated for indoor use, exploded shortly after being plugged in. Fire investigators located a heater matching that description within the structure.

No injuries were reported among residents or responding personnel. Tragically, two pets were unable to escape and were lost in the fire.

Lane Fire Authority would like to thank Eugene Springfield Fire for their assistance on this incident. Their support was especially critical as crews operated in an area without fire hydrants, requiring coordinated efforts to establish and maintain water supply.
