A huge thank you to New Mexico Volunteers for the Outdoors and volunteers of Mesa Prieta for coming out to the preserve this past weekend! We were able to get some much needed trail maintenance done, trim back trees that were encroaching on petroglyphs, and refinish the benches along the trail. We accomplished so much, and it was a treat to see all the smiling faces and share in some excellent conversations. Till next time!

We are thrilled to share that the Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project has been awarded $40,000 through the New Mexico Outdoor Equity Fund!

This incredible grant will fund next year’s Summer Youth Intern Program, giving local students the opportunity to connect deeply with the land, learn advanced documentation techniques, and help preserve the thousands of petroglyphs that make Mesa Prieta such a special place.

Beyond education, this funding strengthens our mission of preservation, documentation, and outreach, allowing us to care for the Mesa, expand training programs, and build lasting relationships within our community.

Thank you to the Outdoor Equity Fund for helping us continue this vital work of cultural stewardship, education, and celebration of our shared heritage.

The Outdoor Recreation Division of the NM Economic Development Department has awarded $2.2M to fund outdoor programs for underserved youth.
