A major winter snowstorm is expected to begin Saturday night and continue through early Monday morning. Forecasts predict heavy, wet snow, at times mixing with sleet or freezing rain, with total accumulations ranging from 5 to 12 inches in Eastern Union County. Wind chills are forecast to reach the single digits or below zero for several consecutive nights, heightening the risk of hypothermia and frostbite.
To help our First Responders and our Department of Public Works with town-wide snow plowing, we would like to remind you to please keep your vehicles off the streets during the storm. We encourage you to park in our municipal lots for free until Monday, January 26th, at 8 pm, or share driveway space with your neighbors. Any vehicle that remains on the street during the snowstorm is subject to ticketing and towing.
We also ask that you refrain from shoveling snow onto roadways, as this can create dangerous driving conditions on our local roads.
Avoid Travel
• Avoid unnecessary travel during inclement weather and use caution if you need to drive somewhere; slower speed, slower acceleration, slower steering, and slower braking. Staying off the road during a snowstorm also helps DPW crews plow city streets quickly and safely.
Garbage Collection
• Both garbage and bulk collection for Monday are cancelled.
Warming Center
• Union Public Library, 1980 Morris Ave., will be open for those in need
