Really Old Food: A Love Story

Explore food that is so old, unusual, or meaningful that no one dares throw it away.

From the 150-year-old pickle that resides in a Washington museum, to the foods found buried with mummies, and even the petrified banana that sparked a Banana Museum, discover why certain kinds of very old food still grip our imagination. Why are some foods intentionally tucked away or preserved due to unusual, unintentional, or special circumstances? In this talk, hear and share stories of how these and other vintage vittles hold memories, tell stories, and connect us with family, culture, and history.

Play "Ready, Prep, Go!" a preparedness game that encourages groups of people to think through emergency preparedness decision making for hazards that may effect King County residents including earthquakes, wildfires, winter storms and more

Nonprofit organizations are invited to a monthly roundtable discussion. Each gathering includes topics determined by attendees, opportunities to share upcoming events, and resources and networking. Meetings are monthly on the last Wednesday of the month, January - October.

Write a story this summer!

Begin your story with the phrase "One time in the forest" and take it from there. The sky's the limit for what happens next! Pick up a template at the library on which to write your final draft and add any illustration you'd like to include.

On August 25 at 6pm, come to the Vashon Library to share your story with others, and have the opportunity to add it to a compilation that will be included in the Vashon Young Author Collection.
