The VISD Band Program is hosting their end-of-the-year Pops Concert! The concert will include performances from the McMurray Mustang Band, McMurray Symphonic Band, VHS Wind Ensemble, and concludes with the MegaBand. Selections to be performed by each ensemble are selected by the students themselves, each with their own unique theme.

The performances start at 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 4, in the VHS Gym.

A by-donation Bake Sale will also be offered prior to and post concert to support the VHS Band. Cash is preferred.

We are so excited to share that the La Chispa Club at Vashon Island School District was selected to receive a student-led grant through The Harbor School Vashon “Island Impact” program!

Harbor School teachers Zach and Emma, guided students through a week of service learning focused on giving back to our island community. As part of the experience, students raised funds and reviewed grant applications from local nonprofits supporting youth on Vashon.

We were honored to apply on behalf of La Chispa Club and even more excited to share that our proposal was selected! 💛

The grant will help support a college exploration field trip for La Chispa youth, giving students the opportunity to visit nearby colleges, imagine their futures, and explore possibilities for higher education and career pathways.

A huge thank you to Zach & Emma and the Harbor School students for investing in local youth and creating such a thoughtful opportunity for community impact. We are incredibly grateful for your support and belief in the La Chispa students.

This weekend only! VHS' acclaimed theatre program concludes its year at Snapdragon Bakery & Cafe with an immersive piece written by junior Declan O'Brien. "Piano Lad" surrounds viewers with the life of a bar in a happily remote seaside village, with characters that come and go, sometimes even singing their hearts out. This wildly original piece is funny, biting, and sometimes moving.

The show plays right in Snapdragon's Black Cat Cabaret this Friday, May 29 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, May 30 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, May 31 at 4 p.m. There is a special meal from Snapdragon available for $15 at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Some tickets will also be available at the door -- but be aware that only 40 seats will be available for each performance!

Boys soccer is off to Federal Way this Friday in pursuit of a state championship!

We are organizing a fan bus to the game at Federal Way Memorial Stadium, leaving VHS at 2:30 pm. for a 5:00 p.m. kick-off. Space is limited to seats on the bus and students who are interested need to sign-up by Thursday in the VHS office. Help showcase Pirate Pride as we try to topple Cedar Park Christian.

There is a $11.50 gate entry for the game.

Recently, sixth grade social studies students had the opportunity to work with island artist Brian Fisher. The art project enriched student’s study of Ancient Greek history and mythology. Inspired by Greek pottery design and the myth of Theseus—the Greek hero who bested the mythical Minotaur—students designed and created collages that reinterpreted scenes from the story. Supported and inspired by Fisher’s expert tutelage, this engaging, creative experience brought the myth to life through art! The experience is thanks to a generous Artist in Residence grant sponsored by Vashon Allied Arts! Thank you, VAA!

Bruce Morser spent several weeks with Chautauqua Elementary 4th graders as part of VCA's Artist in Schools program, and the bird illustrations they made together are now hanging in the VCA breezeway. This is Bruce's 8th year leading this residency with Vashon students, and the work is always worth stopping to see.
