**PUBLIC NOTICE**

**Traffic Safety Concerns: Southbound Turning Lane in Front of Circle K on Cleveland Highway to turn left going towards Varnell Elementary**

The Police Department has received multiple concerns from the community regarding vehicles traveling northbound on Cleveland Highway that enter the designated southbound left-turning lane in front of Circle K. Motorists have reported that this usage creates conflicts and safety concerns with those properly using the lane to turn left onto GA Highway 2, potentially increasing the risk of serious collisions.

Officers will conduct concentrated patrols and monitor traffic conditions at this location, particularly during peak morning and afternoon travel times, but not limited too. Appropriate enforcement action will be taken against any observed violations, consistent with Georgia traffic law.

Cleveland Highway is a state route, and the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is responsible for lane markings, signage, access management, and additional traffic engineering measures to improve safety. GDOT makes all decisions regarding roadway design and modifications on any state roadways.

The Police Department appreciates residents and daily commuters who report roadway safety concerns. We will continue to monitor this location.

*** Update on the Gore located on GA hwy 2 .***

We are pleased to announce that the traffic issue regarding the gore located on GA Highway 2 has been updated to allow for lawful turns into and out of the Circle K, Foodlion, Varnell Wine and Spirits and Ace Hardware parking lots. We appreciate everyone’s patience, understanding, and support during this process. The changes made were approved and implemented in accordance with GDOT guidelines.

****Update GA HWY 2 Left Turn Matter ****

In collaboration with GDOT, the City of Varnell and Whitfield County Public Works have identified a possible solution. A modification to the traffic pattern at this location is anticipated in the near future. We will provide any updates once all decisions have been finalized and a change has been implemented.

We are aware of the publication regarding GA Hwy 2 turning left into Food Lion and Circle K. We agree that the configuration of this area is problematic. The issue is the "gore" (painted barrier). We have contacted the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and are presently exploring potential solutions.
