🚨WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF WE RAN OUT OF VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS?🚨

It’s a question we hope our communities never have to find out the answer to.

Across Calhoun County, our volunteer fire departments are searching for new recruits. Departments such as Vardaman Volunteer Fire Department, Calhoun City Volunteer Fire Department, Derma Volunteer Fire Department, Big Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Sabougla Volunteer Fire Department, Pittsboro Volunteer Fire Department, Bruce Volunteer Fire Department, Chickenbone Volunteer Fire Department, and Banner Volunteer Fire Department depend on volunteers to answer the call.

Every time the tones drop, someone has to leave their home, their family, their job, or whatever they may be doing to respond.

🔥 A house fire
🚗 A serious vehicle wreck
🌲 A tree blocking the roadway
🔥 A woods or grass fire
⛈️ Severe weather and storm damage
🚨 And countless other emergencies

But what happens when there aren't enough volunteers to answer the call?

Response times can increase. Departments may struggle to get enough personnel on scene. Mutual-aid departments can become stretched thin. And ultimately, the safety of our communities can be affected.

Our volunteer fire departments are only as strong as the people willing to stand behind them.

You don't have to already be a firefighter. You don't have to know how to operate a fire truck. Training is provided. There are many different ways to serve, and there is a place for people with all kinds of skills and backgrounds.

If you've ever thought about becoming a volunteer firefighter, now is the time to step up.

Talk to your local department. Ask questions. Come to a meeting or training night. Find out what it takes to become part of the team.

Because one day, you or someone you love may be the person making that 911 call.

Let's make sure there are enough volunteers ready to answer.

We want to give a huge thank you to the Derma, Calhoun City, and Chickenbone Fire Departments for joining us tonight for our 9/11 Memorial Ceremony. We truly appreciate you taking the time to stand alongside us as we honored and remembered those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We were unable to get a picture of all the trucks together, so if anyone happened to take a photo or video of the lineup, please send it to us through Messenger. We would greatly appreciate it!

We also want to give a special shoutout to the Calhoun County - MS Sheriff's Office for attending and showing their support tonight.

Twenty-five years later, the memories of September 11, 2001, remain etched into the hearts of our nation.

On that morning, our country was attacked, but in the midst of unimaginable fear and uncertainty, we witnessed something that should never be forgotten — courage, selflessness, and sacrifice.

While millions were trying to get away from the danger, thousands of first responders were running toward it.

Firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and other emergency personnel climbed the stairs of the World Trade Center knowing there was tremendous danger ahead. They didn't stop to ask who needed help or whether it was safe. They simply answered the call.

343 firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice that day. They entered those buildings as rescuers and never came home.

They were fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, friends, and members of communities across our country. They were ordinary people who did an extraordinary thing — they put the lives of others before their own.

We also remember the nearly 3,000 innocent men, women, and children who lost their lives, the families who were left behind, and the survivors who have carried the memories of that day for a lifetime.

As firefighters, we understand the weight of the words “run toward the danger.” September 11 reminds us that the badge, the uniform, and the truck are not what make a firefighter. It is the willingness to stand between danger and someone who needs help.

Today, we don't simply remember how they died.
We remember how they lived.
We remember their courage.
We remember their service.
We remember their families.
And we remember the thousands of people who chose to help one another when our nation needed it most.

May we never become so distant from that day that we forget the lives behind the numbers.

🇺🇸 25 years have passed. Their sacrifice has not been forgotten.

May we always remember September 11, 2001.
May we always honor the fallen.
May we always remember the heroes who ran toward the danger.

Never Forget. Never Forgotten.

🚨 UPDATED TRAFFIC NOTICE – FRIDAY NIGHT’S GAME🚨

The Vardaman Rams will take on French Camp Academy this Friday night, and we want to make everyone aware of an important traffic update.

County Road 443 will be temporarily closed to through traffic for a short period of time during the game. Fire personnel and law enforcement officers will be stationed along this roadway.

⚠️ Please plan ahead and use an alternate route.
Your cooperation will help keep traffic moving and allow emergency personnel to respond quickly if needed.

📍 You can still find the original parking and traffic map, with all parking areas and entrances labeled, pinned to the top of our page for easy reference.

🚨🇺🇸 LABOR DAY 🚒

As we enjoy the Labor Day weekend we want to remind everyone to take a few extra precautions to help keep you, your family, and those around you safe.

🔥 GRILL & OUTDOOR FIRE SAFETY
• Keep grills a safe distance away from homes, vehicles, and anything that can burn.
• Never leave a grill or fire unattended.
• Keep children and pets away from hot grills and open flames.
• Make sure charcoal is completely cooled before disposing of it.
• Never burn trash or debris when conditions are dry or windy.

🚗 TRAVEL SAFETY
• Buckle up every trip and make sure children are properly restrained.
• Never drive impaired or distracted.
• Give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination safely.

☀️ MOST IMPORTANTLY: Take care of yourself and look out for your neighbors, especially during outdoor activities in the heat.

🏈💙 IT’S GAMEDAY, RAMS! 💙🏈

It’s finally GAMEDAY! 🐏 We wanted to share our post from earlier this week as a reminder of the designated parking locations and entrances for tonight’s game.

🚒 Our firefighters will be on hand to:
• Assist with parking in the handicap-accessible parking areas
• Ensure that only certified personnel enter through the North Parking Entrance of the field

We ask everyone to please follow the posted parking guidelines and listen to our firefighters and school personnel as they help keep things moving safely.

🚨 Please take a moment to review the map and follow the marked parking areas and entrances. This will help keep traffic moving and, most importantly, ensure our emergency responders have the access they need if an emergency occurs.

📍 PLEASE NOTE: If any updates or changes are needed for certain games, a revised parking and traffic map will be posted before that game.
