Displays in our libraries help books get checked out quickly and make browsing fun and easy for readers. Today we found some fun displays at Stevenson Community Library. Apparently it’s and kids will find food related books and can vote on their favorite way to eat potatoes. (Wedges are in the lead but this photographer snuck in a vote for fries before leaving.) All ages can choose a book from the Road Trip display, promoting the upcoming visit by Washington Dept of Licensing’s on Sept 25. Or, check out a couple of board games from the display of available ones. There’s something for everyone!

Panels remain available at Vancouver Community Library for those wishing to participate in Art4Art! This is an annual fundraiser by Friends of Vancouver Community Library. Creators pick up an 8" x 8" panel on Floor 5 of Vancouver Community Library and create their masterpiece. Then, they donate it back to Friends of the Library (due September 15!) to sell on October 2. Proceeds support art and other projects at the library. Learn more at https://www.fvrl.org/foundation-friends/art4art/

Fiber artists, this looks like a great idea for a Little Free Library. Sorry, it’s inconveniently located in Iowa, but road trips are a great opportunity to listen to audiobooks!

Tonight is International Bat Night, a 30-year tradition of celebrating the world's bats, organized by Eurobats in 1997. Bats control mosquito and other insect populations, reduing diseases and keeping pests under control for agriculture. They are also pollinators. We can thank bats for healthier crops, more biodiversity, and more resilient ecosystems. Do you know why bats can hang upside down? Because their blood flows wingtip to wingtip instead of from head to toe.

Learn more about bats by searching our library catalog or using one of our science resources like Power Knowledge Life Science found at https://www.fvrl.org/resources/science-and-technology/

What are you reading this weekend? Our social media manager is looking forward to starting "This Land is Your Land" by Beverly Gage. It's a road trip (love those!) through 13 key places and moments in U.S. history. There's a short wait on the physical book, but not too long. It's on President Obama's Summer Reading list this year–always popular with patrons. Find the list with links to items in our catalog at https://fvrlibraries.org/ObamaSummer26
