Emerald Ash Borers have officially made it to Clark County.

While this is an unfortunate discovery, it was not unexpected, as the invasive species had been confirmed as close as Portland.

You can help limit the spread of EABs through the following management strategies:

- Do not move or transport firewood, including wood for camping. Buy firewood when you get to your camping destination.
- Report suspected EAB sightings to the WA Invasive Species Council
- Submit Oregon ash locations and EAB observations to iNaturalist
- Begin underplanting and consider contacting a local ISA-certified arborist about treatment options before EAB arrives

Rain has arrived! But that doesn't mean autumn is here. You may even have been seeing some leaves change color to orange and red. Those red leaves could actually be a sign of heat stress after the hot, dry summer we've had. With climate change, even mature trees are showing signs of stress.

When the days get shorter, trees get their signals to start getting ready for dormancy, storing their sugars for winter and shutting down the green chlorophyll cells in their leaves. The days have started to get shorter, but it's not quite time for this process to begin.

Even with rain arriving, keep a feel for your soil moisture and keep up with your watering regime until the ground is thoroughly soaked through for the season.

Grant Opens Soon!

We'll begin accepting applications for our Climate Smart Farm Equipment Grant on September 4th.

💚With this grant, eligible Washington producers may receive reimbursement to help purchase equipment that improves soil health, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthens resilience of Washington agriculture.

‼️Funding for this grant is first come, first served, so we recommend applicants start preparing now.

Algae alert! Did you know that using fertilizer in spring or summer can cause harmful algal blooms (HABs)?

Excess fertilizers run off into our waterways, where an overabundance of nitrogen and phosphorus cause algae. HABs rob streams of oxygen, making it hard for fish to survive. They also can make water unsafe for swimming and fishing.

Consider these water-wise actions:
✅ Apply fertilizer sparingly—or better yet, wait until early fall or late winter when plants can use it more efficiently
✅ Sweep up any fertilizer that lands on sidewalks or driveways
✅ If applying in the rainy season, avoid fertilizing just before rain
✅ Consider natural alternatives when possible
