This memorial day, we'd like to honor Katie Benson and the wonderful life that she lived. Sadly, she passed away from cancer last year due to the burn pits she was exposed to while deployed in Kuwait. Not only did she sacrifice her life, but she sacrificed her youth, her health, and her future. She was bright and sassy, kind and thoughtful, and tough as nails but with a smile that made everyone feel welcomed. She was the 852nd.

Since her death, congress passed the PACT Act, which ensures that veterans and their dependents get the resources they need for burn pit related illnesses. Her husband Sri has been on several trips to Washington D.C. and is now getting into politics and advocacy. Please honor Katie by not only registering with the VA (if you haven't already), but by sharing resources with your fellow soldiers and their families. Be an advocate for yourself and others soldiers like her.

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Located in Section 64 of Arlington National Cemetery, the Pentagon Group Burial Marker honors and commemorates those lives lost during the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon. The monument is inscribed with 184 names, honoring all those that perished in the Pentagon and on American Airlines Flight 77.

Arlington held a service at the site on September 12, 2002, which placed special emphasis on the five families that did not receive any identifiable remains from the tragedy. The current monument was placed about a week after the ceremony and is located off Patton Circle in Section 64, in the southeastern part of the cemetery, closest to the Pentagon.

We honor and remember those that we tragically lost on that day. They will never be forgotten.

Instead of posting a photo of the Twin Towers burning on Sept. 11, 2001, we wanted to share this photo of the Tower of Voices at the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, Somerset County. Standing 93 feet high, it features a wind chime for each of the 40 individuals who died on Flight 93 when the hijacked plane crashed in the field on that fateful day. It's often quite windy there at the 2,200-acre park and the sound of those wind chimes is breathtakingly beautiful. If you have a chance, visit the Flight 93 Memorial and never forget what happened on that tragic day.
