Happy 234th Birthday, Kentucky!

Today, we celebrate the Commonwealth of Kentucky, which became the 15th state admitted to the Union on June 1, 1792.

Kentucky's story began long before statehood, but on this day 234 years ago, our Commonwealth officially took its place in the United States. Since then, generations of Kentuckians have built strong communities, defended our freedoms, and contributed to the growth and success of our nation.

The photo accompanying this post is especially meaningful to me. It was taken during a visit to Frankfort, where I had the opportunity to view Kentucky's original Constitution, a document that serves as the foundation of our Commonwealth and reflects the vision of those who helped shape our state's future.

Today, as we reflect on Kentucky's rich history, we also look ahead with gratitude and optimism. Here in Lewis County and across the Commonwealth, we are blessed by the hard work, faith, and determination of the people who continue to make Kentucky a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.

Happy Birthday, Kentucky, and may God continue to bless our Commonwealth for generations to come.

I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Lewis County High School Class of 2026, as well as all of our college, university, technical school, and trade school graduates.

Graduation is more than receiving a diploma. It represents years of hard work, determination, sacrifice, and perseverance. Each graduate has reached this milestone through dedication, the support of family and friends, and a commitment to achieving their goals.

This marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Whether your next step is college, military service, the workforce, or pursuing a skilled trade, I encourage you to embrace every opportunity that comes your way and never stop learning and growing.

Lewis County's greatest resource has always been its people, and our future depends on the talents, character, and leadership of this next generation. I am confident that the Class of 2026 will continue to make our communities proud and help shape a brighter future for our county, our Commonwealth, and our nation.

Congratulations to each and every graduate. Your hard work has brought you to this moment, and your future is full of possibilities.

Today, on Memorial Day, we pause as a nation and as a community to remember the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day is much more than the beginning of summer or a long weekend. It is a day rooted in sacrifice, remembrance, and gratitude. Across generations, Americans have answered the call to defend freedom, knowing the cost could be everything. Many never made it home to the families and communities they loved.
Their sacrifice reminds us that the freedoms we enjoy each day were not free. They were secured by courage, duty, and devotion to something greater than self.

Here in Lewis County, we are proud of the veterans and military families who have served our nation with honor. Today, we especially remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and the families who continue to carry that loss.

As flags wave across our communities and families gather today, may we all take time to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and remember those who gave their lives for our country.

On behalf of Lewis County Fiscal Court, we honor and remember our fallen heroes.

During EMS Week, we proudly recognize and thank the dedicated men and women of Lewis County EMS for the outstanding service they provide to our community every day.

These professionals are there during some of the most difficult moments in people’s lives, responding at all hours, in all weather conditions, and often across long distances to provide critical emergency care. In a rural county like ours, their role is especially important.

I appreciate the hard work and professionalism of EMS Director Michael Byble, the Lewis County EMS Board, our EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers and all EMS personnel who help keep this vital service operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Their commitment, compassion and dedication do not go unnoticed.

Please join me in thanking Lewis County EMS during EMS Week for all they do for the people of Lewis County.

Today we pause to honor the brave men and women who serve in law enforcement and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Peace Officers Memorial Day is a reminder of the risks our officers face every day as they protect our communities, uphold the law, and keep our families safe. Their service requires courage, dedication, and a willingness to put others before themselves.

We also remember the families who stand beside them, carrying the burden of worry, sacrifice, and in some cases, unimaginable loss.

Lewis County has been blessed with outstanding law enforcement officers who serve with professionalism, integrity, and a true commitment to this community. We owe them our gratitude not only today, but every day.

As flags are lowered to half-staff across Kentucky and the nation, let us take a moment to honor the fallen, support those who continue to wear the badge, and thank all peace officers for their service and sacrifice.

This week, during National Police Week, we pause to recognize and honor the brave men and women in law enforcement who put on the badge each day and serve our communities with courage, professionalism, and dedication.
We are blessed in Lewis County to have officers and deputies who work tirelessly to protect and serve our citizens, often under difficult and dangerous circumstances. Their commitment to public safety, their willingness to answer the call at any hour, and their sacrifice for others deserve our respect and appreciation not just this week, but every day.
As Judge Executive, I am proud to support our law enforcement officers and the important work they do for our communities. We thank them and their families for the sacrifices they make to help keep Lewis County safe.
Please join me this week in praying for the safety of all law enforcement officers and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The Camp Dix Volunteer Fire Department officially opened its new fire station and community center Wednesday afternoon during a ceremony at the station on KY 59.

The event recognized the dedication of local volunteer firefighters and the hard work it took to complete the renovation and expansion project.

Speakers included Judge Executive George Sparks, Camp Dix VFD representative Troy Hughes, Magistrate Mark Horsley, State Representative Patrick Flannery, State Senator Robin Webb, and Governor Andy Beshear’s Senior Advisor Rocky Adkins.

Officials highlighted the cooperation between local and state leaders, along with support from the Buffalo Trace Area Development District, in making the project a reality.

The new facility will support both emergency response and community activities in the Camp Dix area.

It was an honor to be part of the unveiling. This video captures a special moment for a community that has worked hard and waited a long time for this day.

This project reflects what can be accomplished through cooperation, dedication, and a shared commitment to public safety. Our volunteer firefighters are the backbone of our rural communities, and this facility is a well-deserved investment in their work and the people they serve.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. We are proud to continue moving Lewis County forward together.
